I am looking to purchase a CAI for my E46 328 CI but would like to hear the views of people that have them fitted sound wise?

Is the Gruppe M Rep any good. A bit of extra Induction noise would be nice to add to the sounds of the 328. [cool

I just don't want to have a car that sounds like a 1.1 Citroen Suxo

I've only ever had 2, both reps from Teddy (SSDD), both without a doubt worth every penny. The one on my 325 (which should be pretty similar to yours) made it sound amazing in the second half of the rev range, really loud growl when I floored it. Can't speak for the genuine articles as I've never had one, but I have spoken to plenty of people who have and they've pretty much all said there's no difference at all on the non-M ones.

I'd recommend you get one without hesitation, it'll transform your engine note from 3k all the way to the red.

Cheers Chaos.

How about MPG ? slightly fewer miles to the gal I guess ?

So, from the sounds of it the CAI induction noise is only really noticable when hitting over 3k and sounds like a stock filter when idle and under 3k?

Trust me, a straight 6 and GruppeM/GruppeM replica WILL NOT sound like a Saxo, or Corsa....

Induction noise is most pronounced when you stab open the throttle in low gears or when you pull revs in second from 3k RPM to 6k.

Your MPG will fall but that's nothing to do with the design of the CAI, it'll be you keeping the engine in the rev range just to hear the noise :D

Nick has hit the nail on the head!

It is a well worthwhile mod and for me this was the first 'performance' mod on my car and wow! Loving it - 3k+ as everyone says.

End of discussion - now wheres Teddy to take your order? [hiya

I can only add one of the funniest moments I had modding my 325 to this:

I'd been round Ted's playing about and we'd put the CAI on. Time came to go and I took off, opened it up as I left and thought OMFG MORE MORE MORE. Gave it handfuls out of his estate and down the main road into town. 2 minutes later the mobile gets an SMS and Teddy's name comes up. Hmmm. Get to the lights, open up the message, it reads "Dude, slow down lol, I can hear you from here!". He could too, after that I made it my personal mission to use the CAI to say goodbye all the way to town in future, haha. :D

Hi mate,

I've brought a CAI from teddy and own a E46 328i (2000) and it sounds alot more aggrasive (before i fitted it the car was SOOO quite) especially between about 2750rpm and 6000rpm, MPG has changed but only because i keep flooring it all the time! if i didn't i'm pretty sure it would be the same...
Defo a good decision to buy one! [writesmil

I'm very fussy :D and when I first put on the CAI, it hissed too much, I nearly sent it back. It's got quieter now.....weird but good. The induction noise is not as good as the standard kit at low revs but from 3000rpm, it's better. Once the ram air effect builds up, from say 50mph approx, the difference feels massive. Acceleration from 50-100mph feels much faster and even at 100, car is pulling like a train. [cool

Buy one from Teddy, you won't be dissappointed.
