View Full Version : Setting ride height

Had my coilovers fitted for a few months now, so they have settled.
I have noticed that the drivers rear is sitting about 25mm than the other side. Where is the correct place to measure the ride height? ie from the top of the wheel arch to ground, or on the adjuster threads on the springs....

It should be from the centre of the wheel to the edge of the wheel arch, have a read of the instructions and it should confirm that anyway

On previous cars, they have always shown to measure the distance from the start of the tread to adjuster rings on the coilovers. Haven't got the manual for the Eibachs though. Never had one settle uneven before. Must be all thoughs Pies

Actually, you should do both. :)
You need to measure a constant. The wheel arch to the hub centre or to the ground (with identical tyre pressures and tyres) is the universally accepted method for doing this. This will give you your actual ride height.
The thread-to-ring measurement will only give you your adjustment height, which may vary slightly from shock to shock. The reason you would measure this is to record a benchmark for any adjustments, and it's a check that you actually have a straight car (it'll show if you don't by one shock being adjusted much higher/lower than the opposite one to get the car level).
Once you have both, it's easy to adjust the car one wheel at a time and know that it will be level. If you just want to check the height for now though, get a ruler/stick/piece of string/golf club/small child/whatever and measure from the arch to the centre of the wheel (that way if you haven't checked your tyre pressures they won't interfere with the measurement) as Mark said, and compare.

Thanks guys, And as soon as the Police release me for jamming that kid under my wheel arch. I'll give it a go. (apparently they didn't believe me when I said I was only borrowing him to adjust my suspension... :o )
