I know there are similar threads to this one already but i thought it might help if people could list any places they know of that do re maps and their locations. It would also be helpful if anyone could recommend anywhere they've had work done or warn of places that aren't worth bothering with.

AMD remaps seem to be getting a lot of positive attention on this forum. Teddy also has a great contact who runs "Big Performance" and has had a couple of cars mapped by him with great results

I guess for a good remap you have to have your car there? They can't do it without your car there any way?
Unless some one knows a good remapper up here in the north east of scotland (Aberdeen). I would drive as far as edinburgh if necessary???

amd maps are good no doubt .....try also DMS as they will travel , usually at no charge . See what they quote you and we will get them to do it for less on our trade account with them .
if not contact VR stying in Perth , speak to Rod he may be able to help .
best of luck

It really difficult to put figure to how much you should pay for a re-map. It varies in price and it varies in the amount of work put in (some places dyno the car pre and aft). Also whether it's a custom re-map or generic (cheaper like Superchips).
I personally would go for a custom re-map and have the car dynoed before and after, not just to check for horsepower gains but more smoothening out of the power/torque curve. Others will be happy with input from the 'butt' dyno.
It'll cost from £250 to £800 depending on the mapper. Sorry can't be too specific but this is the truth. If you stick to bigger companies like AMD, DMS, West Tuning, DiGi-Tec, they are all very good but you pay for their service. Work done by those with first hand experience like Big Performance is also very good; tried and tested.
In the end, it's what you want/expect to achieve and how much you want to spend.

I'm getting mine done by Simon Hall of www.e-maps.co.uk
I spoke to several companies about what they did, why they did it and what gains I would see, warranty offered and the downsides.
What swung it for me is that Simon will come to my house and remap my car for a very good price. He'll also wind back the flash so that the when BMW look at it, the ECU will have the same number of flashes as when it came off the production line. He'll also keep a copy of my 'standard map', give me a copy and if ever BMW overwrite it, he'll remap it again for free.
He's very open about what he does, where some companies try and fool you into thinking it's some form of black art!
Good reviews on various forums too.
I'll let you know after. I'm not too sure how much there is to be gained with the dyno runs unless one can fully switch off the DSC. It cuts in too early as Peppernick found at P.E. You will be able to see how smooth the power is up to when the DSC kicks in though.
