wondering if anyone had any similar issues and may know there the problem is.

the screen now tells me to insert the original Map disc. however its inside and once you open the lid of the unit disc ejected and if you push it it it goes in as normal.
onve the disc out--screen goes to --ALPINE
and once the disc inside-- insert original Map DISC

Also, if I disconnect the cable connecting the monitor and nav unit the music gets a bit louder. and vice versa- once the cable back it its sort of mutes by a step.

anyone had any similar problems?

thanks

You're kidding me. I think it's something in the earth's atmosphere. I have exactly the same unit and mine did EXACTLY the same thing yesterday. I got the "insert original alpine disc" I ejected, re-inserted and it said "loading new ROM" or something like that and it goes in an endless loop. It's either a software issue or hardware and if anyone knows, i'll be greatful!

UPDATE. Yesterday afternoon, I was pissed off with seeing the reboot screen all the time, so I removed the power from the Sat nav unit. Drove it as normal, parked up overnight, drove it a couple of places and got back home about 20 mins ago. Thought, what the hell, plug the power back in and now, for some reason, everything works again! Took about 2 mins for the GPS to locate the satellites, but everything seems back to normal.

So my advice is to remove the power completely from the unit for a few hours and see if that fixes your issues.

Will keep a close eye on it, it's been flawless for two years since I had it, but glitches like this make me nervous. And I may just upgrade to D310 and NVE 99

I got a call today from Alpine. said disconnect power, gps and monitor cable.

reconnect monitor and power. leave ignition on for 5 minutes-that will reset the unit. if not work-call us and tell us.

so tomorrow will give them a ring again. Asking to insert the disc,

worked for 2 years fine. maybe 099:cool: ?

Hi, I have the same system and a couple of weeks ago it did the same thing, locks in an endless loop of updating ROM, screen goes off then on again and it affects the volume of the CD player and radio like it is muting it for a nav instruction. I disconnected everything and reconnected and it worked but yesterday it did the same thing.

This is clearly a common fault so if anyone has a more permanent fix it would be appreciated.

Speak to Andy @ Icecold. Apparently alpine have changed the configuration of connecting to the satellites which doesn't affect the 99, but does the 77. There is a software fix that Andy is working on getting, so if you contact him, he'll be able to get hold of one for you.

Speaking of which, any news on the disc andy?

Have you tried the reboot procedure? Pull out all the wires from the navi, start the car for a few mins, then plug in power and screen leads, wait for the CD to spool up, then plug in the GPS. If that works, you know your laser is fine.

Also, if the reboot DOES work, wait for it to fire up, then eject the nav disc, then put the software update disc in.

Also, once you're done with the disc, any chance I could get it off you?

ah ok. got a few calls like that with people hanging up. I guess the ringtone scares people off :) and I don't normally get caller ID when I'm roaming.

Will try to swing by on Thursday, if not, definitely saturday

just done it again,
once the update disc inside-the screen says--unreadable disc.

once the map dvd inside-says-- insert original disc.does not react on disc cover-is it closed or open. and not giving me any menu.just plane message in few languages.
that is confusing me is how does it know that the update disc is unreadable and map disc is no good to the unit if the laser gone? how does it detects different discs?

map disc is original alpine version 04,

If you want to stick with the NVE 077, you can buy mine? It's working and will be plug and play into your loom and I'll even price match the repair price! Andy's already updated the software so it works fine

Thanks but I have already upgraded to Blackbird as Andy suggested. Its portable and also once in a dock its fully controlled from my new d105 unit. touch control also. Got all speed camera locations(indicate speed limit as well) on it and traffic lights.

Very easy to use (no remote needed) also got a function to avoid congestion charge area. And easy to plug off and use in another car.

Bud point for me as I used to motorway view on 077- shows on screen witch lane to stay in- the blackbird does not have that. You have to listen to guidance and watch the screen.

But for £400 including docking station I can live with that.
