Merc CLS v BMW M5

[M5 SC]

Which is best???

Merc CLS (topgear last night) or the BMW M5 (fifth gear tonight)

I've loved BMW's all my life and i always will BUT i'd have that Merc over the the M5 any day of the week.

So powerful and so gorgeous...

What's people's opinion's on this? agree or disagree???

I opt for the M5 for the engine and gearbox but when it comes to class and beauty, it will always be the Merc.

In fact I dare to say that Mercedes will always be regarded as a class above any rival beemer .

645i VS CL500.....no contest, CL oozes so much more class

545i VS E500.....E is so much more majestic

750Li VS S500....OK S is ageing a bit but still

Not keen on the CLS looks, kinda weird. M5 for me, just for the engine although they could have made it look a little more ' special ' for 70k.

M for me. The Merc looks prettier but that's scant consolation when you've just been scalped on a corner and left for dead. ;) On top of that, as they said last night, the biggest worry with a Merc these days is their reliability and service - although the personalised nameplate on the engine was a nice touch (maybe to ensure top quality they need to put the home address under the guy's name aswell lol :D )! Those Merc lads sure know how to give a car the supermodel look though - although not having Bangle botching his way through their dev dept does give them a headstart...

CLS for me. After seeing the M5 in the flesh today, im a little disapointed. I think the car has absolutely no road presence. The wheels look way too small and certain things dont look right! The one at the dealer was £72k. CLS has awesome brakes!

Apparently the guy who owns it adverised it on ebay before taking delivery and it sold for over £80k. However BMW refuse to sell it to him! UNLUCKY! [fight

i never was a fan of merc in the few years ive lived :p. Always related it to old people [hmm :p. I still wouldnt feel right driving any of them other than their more sportier ones like the sl's and slk's. Even then only the newer shapes. Although the newer shapes are alot more appealing if i had to chose right now id go with the M5 :D.

I'm just not sure if the new M is aggrasive enough in the looks department...
The old M looks like a motorsport car but the new M just looks a bit like a 'normal saloon'...

Not saying its not a great car, but newest is not always the best?

i can't stand the look of the CLS just does nothing for me... although neither does the M5 - therefore would go for the drive and the M5 most prob wins on that one...

looks, mercs wins, but the m5 brings the better package to the table being more of a drivers car imho..
agree that the new m5 could be more aggressively styled, thats what moddin's about!!! plenty of potential to turn the ugly duckling into a princess! :D

if Audi sorted out the power (hopefully they are), they have the looks, build detail already imo. a 600bhp RS6 would be awesome! [jam

The M5 will still be running, whilst the the Merc is being repaired even if only a minor repair, it's a fact that Mercs no longer have the build quality of previous years, they wanted to make more profit but could not increase their share of the market so they cut their operating costs to inflate profit and the build quality went down, fact.

The M5 is / was the original "Q" car ( like E55 AMG) your not ment to notice it in the car park, only when its draft in overtaking you has pushed you into the nearside lane [bow TV presenters will buy the CLS people who get paid to drive / race will buy the M5, and i'll just look on wishing :(

The m5 the arabic additon of "Top gear" magazine the reached 339Km/h so it has got the stright line speed and it has the accelartion and it has the handling and it looks better than the Merc , better gear box SMG seven speed and not an auto, so the M5 for me

I watched the replay of topgear last night and i have to say the CLS is ugly, damn ugly. Looks like an S-type jag from the back :( M5 still all the way on looks and performance.

Have to say I am tied in the looks department between them both. But for driving focus and enjoyment I'd still have to say the M5.
