E46 that wont start

My friend has an e46 and it just wont start. Turn the ket to the first click and the radio comes on fine, second click climate control and dash lights come one fine, third absolutly nothing??

Its not the batterey as on the third click you dont get that clicking noise when you have a flat battery. Anyone help out?

Im thinking maybe immobiliser? How could you reset it?

is it absolute silent when he turns the key? Have u checked the alternator?

it might be your immobiliser - maybe remove one of the battery terminal to reset? i assumed it would have been the battery as it may not have enough crank...

ignition switch isn't uncommon.

Hold the key in position 3 till it starts. Just keep it held there and after about 90 seconds it starts. common fault on pre 2003 cars, something to do with the chip in the key.

Been looking at all day, had a comp on it, its the ews unit.
