Not exactly sure if this is in the right area, jus signed up so im kinda new here :)

Anyway got a problem with my car and im unsure what it is. It goes in and out of gear fine when the engine is turned off, I can put it into gear, and i can hold the clutch in and start the car and drive it in that gear, although it does make a strange noise, like grinding/rubbing. Biting point seems very low when moving the car like this though.

Once the car is started, it wont come back out of that gear, or go into any gear for that matter, unless i turned it off, put it into gear and started it back up again.

It has been fine but it has sometimes sounded like its slipping, almost sounding like an automatic, when putting foot on the accelerator it revs higher and the revs drop down (recently discovered this is down to the 'lock valve'?) Cruise control also stops working the odd time as it revs up higher than normal and then the revs drop, almost like it cant engage properly.

Not really sure what it could be, just wondered if anyone could help

Thanks

Graeme

Your clutch is shot, pretty shortly it'll just spin up and the car will go nowhere. You need to get it into a workshop for a replacement asap.

Welcome to the forum btw. :)

Thanks for the welcome, meant to add, can also feel the clutch pedal kind of shaking with the engine if this makes sense?

As Chaos says. Also, how much brake fluid is in the reservoir? Does it need topping up. I think that this fluid also drives the hydraulic clutch and if low can cause issues. But certainly seems like your clutch is bad.

Fluid is fine, happened suddenly though, seemed fine when i was going to the place i got to, jumped in my car to head home and couldnt move it after that. Fortunately i wasnt far from home to get towed in, trust it to be rush hour on friday though.
