I just can't let this go off my mind!!
What do you think of a module that gives you the ability to open and close the roof by the use of the remote key.
Waiting to hear your ideas on that

Had this on my E36 M3 convert, worked off my clifford along with a remote start, was a very smart mod.

Great!! Perhaps you could be able to help me out with some questions!
Did you have the same module installed or a different one? Is the specific one a good type or should I look for sth else?
Will it take me more than couple of hours to install it?
Thnx

looks like i good mod, i have seen them installed on E46 verts. Not sure about how long it will take. You could drop ICECOLD a pm he is the resident ICE expert, he can probably give you some info on how to install such electronic mods.

I don't know why BMW allow you to open the drop top remotely as standard but not allow it to close it! You would think it would be the other way round.

Angelosk
07-02-2008, 09:43 PM
Allows you to open it remotely!!???!!!!
How is that done?

Styler
07-02-2008, 09:44 PM
i just hold the unlock button down and it opens for me. Thought it was standard?? lol

Angelosk
07-02-2008, 09:46 PM
Damn I have to take the hardtop off to try that!!!!
Suppose can't do that now!!!! :(
p.s. Are you sure it's standard?

ERrrrr, guys the roof can go up or down from your stock key. It just needs programming, which can be done by anyone with an autologic. I got mine done at B&W Chiptune in Hounslow. ;)

Angelosk

WOW let's take it easy and one by one!!

it is standard but only on newer models, my diy kit aloud you push the button once and walk away nice lol..

great pose when you are waiting to pay for petrol and car starts to take the roof down by its self lol

Just looked in the BMW owners handbook and it is standard :D you can close it using the key lock if need be though.

Oh, i didn't know you could get it programed to get it to close :)

Angelosk

After getting the key programmed or even without that I will be able to do it?

your car should have it. all the e46 verts have them. stay close to the door handles and hold unlock buttom till it drops.

But the reception for it too drop it is shitt, i have it on my car and many times it stops half way i would love to get a module which you can just push once.

Mike- if you get it programmed by B&W chiptune can you do it from further??

No it`ll go up or down but not with one press.

As already stated you have to hold the button to get it to do it. It can be done off a Clifford alarm if you have one and then will work on a one touch press of the button on the Clifford remote.

That's why I am thinking of the module I told you!!!
I am installing it guys!! Just tried the key feature but didn't work.

Dibberly
08-02-2008, 02:44 PM
the key feature never worked on my 2001 vert so i bought a module last year and fitted it - it fiddly to fit as you have to take the a multi plug apart behind the glove box for about 6 wires i think it was (my advice is to solder the connections and not use scotch locks as supplied with the kit (mind you - never liked them)...or you will end up doing it twice like me!! lol)

On mine you have to hold the lock / unlock button down for 3 seconds for the roof to open or close and can be stopped easily by pressing the other button.

Looks cool when your walking away and the roof opens or closes and at least you dont have to wait for when your in the car, start it, press the button to lower the roof then drive off when its down.

As long as i am in "locking or unlocking" range it will work

Best mod i have done!!!

It looks like it's working perfectly mate!! Can you give me any hint on how to find the specific one and not risking with a dude from the ebay?
Thnx!! :)

Dibberly

wow...errr i will see if i can find the instructions

but for what i can remember it was easy - you had to split the multiplug (which was then 2 or 3 single plugs and then count the wires to make sure you got the right one....it was along time since i done mine but he should provide good instructions...if you local then you can pop down and can show you / help ya fit it

i cant even remember who made mine now lol

but will look for the instructions as i know there on the net as a pdf file....somewhere!!

Is that one you are using Dibberly? It's sold by Reinhold Engineering !!
It has an auction on the ebay on that!
I just can't imagine when I shall stop bidding! Perhaps 100
What do you think?Does it worth it?

Angelosk

http://www.reinhold-engineering.de
They are asking for 200 !!!! I think it's far too much for an item of 50 grams
If anyone know something cheaper please let me know!!
Thnx :)

I have done this mod on mine! It is a brilliant mod as you never have to sit and hold down the button at the end of a drive but you need to be confident about installing it as it takes a bit of work.

I got mine from the same guys as this Link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E36-E46-Z4-Convertible-roof-remote-top-module_W0QQitemZ130195239746QQihZ003QQcategoryZ122 141QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

Didn't work at first as needed 2k ohm resisters (cheap from maplins).

If you can get your key reprogrammed to do the same I'd go down that route.

Angelosk

I don't think reprogramming is in the solutions right now since nobody I know is able to do that for me!!
Propably going for the Reinhold one and crossing fingers firstly on being the highest bidder and secondly on installing it without destroying all the electronics on the car!!!!! :)

No, i cant remember who made mine, but the company done a module for the windows aswell - but it installs the same way...except the instructions i got told you what wire gave you the power supply instead of going to the cigarette lighter (bit tacky imho)

Also mine you can switch between "one touch" or to where you have to hold down the key at all times for it to work...you have to press the buttons about 20 / 30 times to turn on or off the one touch then you hazards flash

I won mine on ebay aswell...about 62ish quid i think...or was it 80ish??

oh god such a long time ago BUT WORTHWHILE!!

Like i said any probs if you local - pop down!!

Just bid what you think its worth...there always on there and when installing just take your time and check, double check and check once again you have the right wire....or pay someone to do it if your not confident in doing it yourself

Angelosk
08-02-2008, 04:06 PM
Yeah perhaps I shall wait a bit and get the right bid. I am not going over 100!! Actually I have an electrician who is gonna install it and I don't think I will have any issues considering the power supply or connecting the windows as well on it!!
I d like to thank everyone that help me out on this one and tell them that propably I am gonna post a new thread while installing it after facing the first problems!!!
Thnks guys!!!

p.s. Local? Kind of ..... mmmm yeah I could say I am a bit close, I am in Greece!!!!! :)

that one is £90 and can include an auto door locking feature

Angelosk
08-02-2008, 04:28 PM
Yeah I saw it! I had the auto lock feature although I lost it after a resetting and don't now hoe to get it back!
I just don't really like the seller and kind of prefer the Reinhold one.
Do you think he is ok?

Dibberly
08-02-2008, 04:31 PM
