After 3 months of trying to find out how to do this i've finally managed to have my car set up so that when i set the alarm the mirrors fold in and fold out when de activated. Just thought this might be a useful mod to a few people :)

Not that difficult but you have to take the car into the dealer for them to do it. Its just a matter of getting it reprogrammed. Been trying to do this mod for ages, even had someone in US about to design a circuit. If you ask the dealer to do it then they will probably say they can't. I went in with the explanation below printed out and they did it in about 30 mins.

There is a submenu that you can program the mirrors to fold in, it is applicable to our cars. The coding... a sequence of numbers and letters.... that applies to the module that the mirrors are programmed in is different from a car with folding mirrors vs non-folding mirrors. All US cars that did not come with folding mirrors have a code and all US M3 cars that came with folding mirrors have another code. That is the code you need. Then the code can simply be changed in our cars to resemble that of an M3 with folding mirrors, and turning it on will work.

dude, are you from the UK? So if i take that to my dealers, they can program them to fold up and down via the standard alarm?

Yes i'm in the UK. If your mirrors fold now with the switch then you can get it done.

Yes retrofitted the M3 replica mirrors from teddy. Don't let the dealers tell you they can't do it, coz they can. If they still say they won't then get them to contact either Halliwell Jones in Southport (who did mine) or Trainer BMW in Swansea who have done it on a 320d. It was the first time the dealers i went to had actually been asked to do it or attempted it.

sorry to ask but if you dont mind what did it cost?

It cost me £36.28 in Southport and the one that was done in Swansea cost £19. Probably depends how good the service guys are at wherever you go as you will just be charged labour. If they understand what they are doing before they start then it shouldn't take long. They had my car for about 30 mins.

Not to bad at all! cheers mate.
one more thing! can you still fold the mirrors without setting the alarm? example: in the car with engine running, if you press button to fold mirrors will they still do it? (i've got a TIGHT road near me and i fold my mirrors when going down it so another car does'nt take them off!)

Yes you can (did it tonight by mistake while trying to reverse out of a car park.) You also don't always have to fold your mirrors up when you set the alarm. They only fold up when you press the arm button on the key for a couple of seconds and they unfold when the alarm is de-activated ie. you don't need to leave your finger on the button to get them to fold back down.'

Hope you understand my explanation.
