Had my car lowered a week or so ago and now it has settled need to get the tracking checked. I am having new tyres fitted at lunchtime, but am I right in thinking that you need more than the usual tracking check that most places do? What do I need done and what does it normally cost?

Cheers

Ideally you need the laser alignment.

Speak to Durgesh / Harsha, they have a hookup in North London, can fit your tyres and do the laser alignment, don't know how much it costs.

Alternatively, closer to home, Feltham Tyre Centre, they have a branch in Slough, they will charge minimum £80 up to £120 or more depending on how much adjustment is required. Best thing about FTC is that they load up the car with sandbags to simulate human weight to get true readings

You need the 4 wheels Laser/Computer alignment done. Depending on whereabouts you are based places like Northway tyres, Protyres are pretty good.

If you are based anywhere near slough, there is a place called Thames Valley Tyres and Alignment centre who are very highly recommended round these ways. I got charged somewhere close to £55

Hope that helps.

cheap places like Hi-Q will do it for 37.50, but it's all done manually so it's poo. good garages will give u a print out of before and after...u will need camber and toe adjusted and the cost is likely to be in the region of 60-100. Sunbury tyres do it for 65 all in, whilst Feltham Tyres do it for 80 max (they will charge u 20 for initial checking and then 15/corner for adjustments). There are garages who have the top-of-the-range Snap-on wheel alignment machine but they charge 150+...

If I remember correctly he uses what he called Computer alignment, where he bolts on a unit to each wheel then, plugs in a cable to each unit which is linked to his computer. Whether this is the same as Laser - can someone shed some light on that?

I was highly recomended to go to him from the Styledynamix boys in Hayes. All the slammed Euro type Golfs go to him.

He has a read....goes under my car and makes a few adjustments.....goes back to the computer....goes back under my car, swears a couple of times cos one of the bolts was rusty and he couldn't loosen it.

£55 later my car was back on 'track' :p

These are the contact details for Thames Valley Tyres: 01753 571199
