Hi Guys...
OK with all the recent craze for Gumball etc.. a few of you might be interested in the following.
Fellow member of the forum, and a good freind of mine, Vish, some of you know him already, is planning to do a Gumball sort of thing. It's not going to be like Gumball where we make everyone pay an entry fee etc.
We will sort out all the details and bookings etc, and everyone can take care of their own costs. Doing it just for the Fun, not for profit!!!
Vish and I are already working out the plans and stuff... but we would like to see how much interest there is for this summmer!
So far this is the route, however it might change:
London - Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Rome - St Tropez
- Paris - London.
If you are interested.. stick your names down. I am not going to hold anyone to it until we have sorted everything out... please do only write your name if you think it is something that you would like to do, so we can get a good idea of numbers.

So is it gonna be a race or just a cruise? Would it not be easier for one person to sort out hotels etc and then everybody pay that person, dont need to be making a profit, but it would make sure everybody is in the same place? etc etc
Im down though

it will be july or august, not more than a week.
lee - itll be a cruise but obviously we're all little boys inside and im sure everybody will compete, having said that there will b a prixe (or something along those lines) for 1st and last place...
instead of 1 person paying for every1 and hoping to get the money what we intend to do is just put all the details on a piece of paper with references etc so that everyone just needs to confirm with the hotel and sort out payment, deposits etc.
its going to be fun, we're getting sitckers for the cars etc, and will organise parties for the stops!

Sounds cool, especially with the stickers an all.
Wheres the starting parade, Digs house? :D
Thats what im meant about 1 person organising and everybody pays the hotels oe what ever etc
I'm in... but don't think my baby bmw will hack the pace so may have to hitch a ride!
won't be able to make anything for a week in july/august this year :(

This sucks :( July and August are out for me. I'm already away for a week in June, and again in August so another week in June is not possible :(
However, just got off the phone, he has potentially 3 cars to add to the posse, the M6 he's building, and possibly a turbo'd e46 m3. I'm sure he'll post up later :P

Slightly possible, saving money for the new arrival (baby) and next road trip round europe early next year.
7 days and all them cities!!! without looking at a map thats a good 3000 miles!!! which is goona be a good 500 miles everyday! thats hardcore...
wont have much time to party and take in the sights! (i'd spend a whole day at the nurrenburgh - sorry about the spelling!)
sounds very good though... like i said its a slight possibility.
parade... hmmm... havent thought that far ahead yet! depending which motorway we take out of london, i thought we could meet on south carriage drive (hyde park for those who dont know) could get some cool photo ops, then again we could meet more central and attract a crowd!
we were hoping to attract some publicity so anyone with any connections in that field please let us know
im soooooooooooooooooooooo going to lose [crackmeup.

Also, if it's of any use, I know a professional photographer in London who would be glad to hang out and take loads of pics if we repaid him with nothing more than the appropriate advertising and the odd drink. Just gimme the nod if you're interested.

London - Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Paris - London.
then we could get a day or 2 at he ring? and be about 2000 miles...
cheltenham to amsterdam and back again is 1000 miles spot on nearly
:):)
I'm in as long as i have my new car
Vish and Digs,
I seriously agree with paulm3....
Let's cut the rome part out of the trip...
and go to the Nurburg...
Seriously... its gonna make the trip more sizeable and a lot more enjoyable from a "driver's" point of view...

As you can see already, if we start doing that sort of thing.. its going to be silly, everyone be like lets stop here and there. Some people will and some won't.
The Ring I think is something that should be done on a different trip.
Was looking at the route and the bit to cut out I think, is amsterdam, and rome, that shouold shave a 1000 miles off it.
Bring the whole thing down to 2000, hopefully.
Anyway I'll be speaking to Vish later about it, but with like 30+ cars its not going to be possible to make little stops at car tuners etc etc.

spoke to the girlfriend and its looking more likely! say a 50/50 now...
be better in august or towards the end of the summer.
i aint gonna be underpowered in 328i am i? still cruise at 140 ok though! aint gonna be going much faster than that are we???!!! :o :o
well considering i dont think i can reach 140mph i hope not [hmm.
paulm3
20-05-2005, 04:08 PM
ok.. so its gonna be a drive by day... beer by night.. type of getaway....
I'm deffo in :):)
i can only do 160 so hopefully the convoy wont be faster than that!!
i dont mind shortening the route but i dont want it to be too short, the drive from rome to st tropez should be bloody beautiful, all b roads on the coast.... but if no1 wants it we can change it. i think it would be best to go for exactly a week, leave on a sunday morning get back on the sunday evenin. still havent had any advance on the publicity front so anyone who is able to help please do!!

Why not somebody contact Performance BMW as it sounds like most of the cars are gonna be BMW's anyway. Take it your going in your X5 Vish?
Id def like to go the Rome trip though.
Ahh, i'm not worried any more about getting too tired...
Vish, if you're bringing the 4.8iS then we'll be taking, how shall I put this, very "frequent" petrol stops :D
yeah ill be taking the 4.8, hoping to mod boost it to abt 400bhp before the trip so it should be fun! i honestly think that stopping in germany for too long isnt a good idea as i have a lot of other people coming who would rather go via rome and enjoy the scenic route! i personally dont have a problem with either way, but i would have to speak to everyone else doing the trip to get their views. as i said, the way im hoping to organise the trip isnt too fixed, but at the same time it'll need some structure to the planning if we dont want it to end up our own "wacky races" with 40 odd cars!!
i know.... she's gonna drink me out of house and home!!! but it'll be worth it... i guess ill have to stop only using optimax!!
in europe youll be downing that 100ron stuff :p. Forget optimax :D

not over keen on the rome part but if we go london, berlin, prague, vienna, then go milan then on to st tropaz because if we go straight from vienna to st tropaz that is a long way and the alps are in between as well! milan is almost in our path anyway!
7 days: london, berlin, prague, vienna, milan, st tropaz, paris then home.
souldn't be to much for 7 days.
think i'm in by the way, got a mate coming in my car with me. looking at 90% chance of being there.

just worked out that route. just over 4000km or 2500miles. thats for the above route and is approximate. 7 days is gonna be 350miles a day which depending on roads, traffic, ect, would take about 4-8 hours. if we're gonna be going out in the evening (which i want to do!) we dont wanna arrive at our destination to late, so we can go out, get some sleep, and not have to rush to much the following morning...
this is just me thinking out loud! thought i'd get some figures down so people can see whats entailed... :D :D
lee330sport
20-05-2005, 10:51 PM
2500 miles in 7 days, come on add a few more miles, make it a challenge. :D Wgats the average gumball stage 700 miles?
Since its Vish's idea i think he should lay down the route and the rules?
M5 SC
20-05-2005, 11:07 PM
as i said, just 'thinking out loud'.
just making a suggestion. its what 'vish' said apart from rome (which a few people have said they dont fancy) and why not stay in milan for a night or stop for an afternoon when we will be travelling so close to milan anywhere? just thought it'd make sense... i'm not to bothered what the route is but 'vish' said he wanted input so thats what i'm doing...
PS i take it we are avoiding toll roads? (because we cant speed!) which will make the journey a fair bit longer. (st claude to monaco takes 8.5 hrs on tolls and over 12 hrs on normal roads)
cruising's great fun but dont know if i fancy 8-10 hours every day behind the wheel...
JUST GIVING MY INPUT [ok

looking forward to meeting everyone and there cars!!!
:D :)
ok guys, i need to know numbers so assuming the following route:
London - Amsterdam - Berlin - Prague - Vienna - Rome - St Tropez
-Paris - London
maybe cut out 1 destination, it'll be done in the end of july or the beginning of august. so just put ur names down as before:
1. Vish
lee330sport
24-05-2005, 12:27 PM
Beginning of Aug is best for me.
1. Vish
2. Lee
i think the general consensus is beginning of august so its heading that way...
im probably out as a driver. I been thinking about it and dont think my car could handle it honestly [hmm. Plus dont think i have the experience to really be playing with you guys at those kind of speeds.
M5 SC
24-05-2005, 03:35 PM
:Afif: Dont be silly mate... my experience of 'gumball' type runs across europe is that most people dont really hit the really high speeds because its just to dangerous. you just cant have 10-15 cars all doing 130-150mph because someone will end up getting killed. people normally just cruise at 100mph or a little more and maybe go of in small groups or on there own to hit the really high speeds.
If we're not using the toll roads and using normal roads then you would have a death wish to be bombing down normal roads at very high speeds.
just look at past gumballs and it dont matter what you drive or who you are, if you drive fast and stupid it will end in tears.

Wonker with a 'O'
can someone give me an estime of how much this would cost minus petrol and crossing the channel costs? Im talking about hotels in each city and obviously going out and having some fun :D.
Id assume 7 cities and about £40 for a night in a hotel which comes to about £300?Then probably £50 minimum per city on going out ot do something? £350. Not fogetting meals probably about £100 in total......£750 so far [hmm. Any other costs im forgetting?
Im curios because even if i cant make it with you guys me and my mates my do a similar solo mission some other time during our holidays :).
