Well my track day is coming up again on the 9th Feb, and i would love to record it this time. anyone know a good way to record it? i dont want to spend lots of money. i thought about using my laptop, but the battery would run out pretty quick, but then i realised that i wouldnt be on the track for such a long time at a time. so it could work. would a webcam work? they are pretty good nowadays arent they?

webcams are good, but...I would suggest borrowing Nokia E95 with a decent camera and 8Gb of internal memory. Tape it to the mirror or somewhere and it can record many track minutes for sure...

Buy a mount and borrow a video camera.

A webcam will be terrible.

i have a 5 megapixel sony ericson camera, should i use that?
why not mate.
Just make sure its secure. You could probably just tape the crap out of it onto the rear middle seat headrest or something (asuming 5 seats not sure if coup etc) hehe.
a mount would be ideal though ;)

I just would not be happy with the quality, and the "anti-shake" won't be very good if even present at all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1PJ8m5Deag - cameraphone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzBtfCrfSc0 - camera mount and video camera
Notice the quality difference in sound and video. I guess it really depends on yourself, a cameraphone is better than no footage.
If you havent seen my nurburgring suicide, then youtube "ZX Nurburgring" - the setup here was a tripod with legs going either side of the "elevated" part of the car where the handbrake is - but in the back (so basically behind the front seats but in the middle". The camera was some cheapish like 400 or so quid sony digicam. I'd say its "perfect" in regards to anti shake, and the quality is pretty good.
This shows what a good mount will do for you compared to say, the top video posted by Kin Mak. But most of it is still going to be in the camera you use and not the mount or tripod...

My setup is cheap... well cheapish.
£49.95 Headrest mount
http://www.b-hague.co.uk/CLAMPS/aheadrestA.jpg
£150 DV Camcorder

£35 Wide angle lense(optional)
http://www.dabs.com/images/product/uni2/4b/4bkn_large.jpg
Important thing is to make sure it is secure, you cannot have the camera in anyway be able to come loose. It will be deadly in an accident.

strapped my phone to the back of rear view mirror today. pretty cool i thought. i had my windows openned to get the noise. but on track day the windows must be shut....so i did a second test, with the handsfree wire out the window but all i got was wind noise. so i will do a second test with cotton wool around the handsfree microphone.
heres the vid sorry about the driving, not my best. :p

Try lifting a corner of the gear gaiter and tucking your mic in down there - you should get some nice engine/exhaust noise with a lot less wind interference than with it out of the window. Just, please, be careful to NOT get the wire dangling where it can get caught up in the gearstick, that could provide an untimely distraction...
That video footage is pretty damn tidy for a phone. Not the best of course, but still very reasonable considering - and at no extra expense!

Pontio, you never seen getaway in cockfosters? :D
ive just compared the video quality on google video, to the one i uploaded from my computer, and the quality has been lost. so the video is actually a lot better. im going to try upload it somewhere else.

You should be banned for driving like that in a built up area.

I use a Bullet Cam (£115)located in the RH grill, this connects to a small camcorder located in the glovebox for safety.

You're kidding right. you were doing 30mph? not really. Posting that on google, linking it onto a high-profile forum, in a car where your number plate is clearly on show in a sig, not the brightest this morning are we

Pretty good for a phone-camera job - but definetly get the camera-mount. I bought one and haven't looked back.
Also, don't let your mate Gary drive your (or his, since no plate is showing) M3 in that residential area like that again ;)

I am impressed with the quality considering its a phone..... but gotta agree with others here, shouldn't be driving like that in residential areas.

That turned out better then expected...
As for the driving... Now i "reakon" we've all done it... We've all broke the speed limit at one stage or another, If its by 5mph or 15mph.. So we cant really dig in to XKaLiBaR, Just before careful were put foot down and were you post it up..:)

I wasn't digging into him for speeding, like you said, we all do it, right? I was digging into him for recording it on a forum where it doesn't take a genius to know who was driving, what they were doing, how fast they were going and trigger off adverse actions.

A agree with Fas - we all watch TV and see those kamikaze drivers doing 125mph on a motorway and recording it. And this is not one off case...
I am sure that the police are now concerned about it and obviously linking the footage on the google to the forum was not a very good idea.
Though I did really like the idea of recording driving via the phone.

Case in point. These fools http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Mc4J5r5AFU are now wanted by police for posting this video on Youtube. They made the BBC news last week. 130mph in some kind of Jag on an empty motorway.

so anyway, after my 30mph test with the windows down, i tried chaos's idea of under the gator. but the noise wasnt right, and i got a lot of noise when changing gear.
so i got an another idea. i placed my phone in the boot, and the microphone under the matt, and got this sound :D
<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i270.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid270.photobucket.com/albums/jj110/XKaLiBaRiS/Bootnoise.flv">
now all i have to do is lengthen the microphone wire, and feed it from the front to the boot, and try and get rid of some of that excess road noise.
