Welcome!

The 2.2L is not the most gutsy of all engines but it's a very refine unit. One of the best to entry level 6 cylinders there is.

You're most definitely on the right forum if you're into modding your motor

Cheers peppernick, i know its not the most powerful, but i do want something that is refined, nice and comfortable. Im deffo into modding, but only ever had escorts, my last one was in max power LOL [bang I was young though.

A few questions that you might be able to answer?
Can i get xenon/angel eyes for E46 coupes? Links?
Are the LED rear lights easy to fit?
Do 19's fit with no arch mods? I like the M3 Evo style polished ones!

Sorry about the Q's, i promise i wont ask that many more! [read

Cheers mate, to be honest, ive not had one offer on it, its been up for sale for 2 weeks! :( Its such a minter that unfortunatly for me, its a high price bracket £16995, and therefore not alot of people out there with the £££ to spend on a car :(

Just cant wait to get my BMW though [cool [cool

Can i get xenon/angel eyes for E46 coupes? Links?
Yes. Proper xenons can be had from breakers yards or the like, alternatively, our sponsor, CA-Automotive sells HID kits which are a REALLY good alternative. Our very own Teddy of SSDD-Motorsport can supply angel eyes.

Are the LED rear lights easy to fit?
Yes, very.

Do 19's fit with no arch mods? I like the M3 Evo style polished ones!
Yes, but genuine rears won't fit without a lot of work. You can run 4 front's no problem. Or go aftermarket ;)

You sure you can handle going from Cossie power to 2.2 power?!

Surely a 330 or M3 is the choice! Whatever you choose, you'll love the quality of BMW!

330ci Group 16, 330 ci Sport Group 17

Depending on how and where you drive, I would say on average 23-27MPG realistically

Ooo might be cheaper on insurance then, cossie is 20!! I drive quite hard, but suppose anythings better than 12mpg that i get from cossie!! pmsl

You can get into a 330i for 13k and a 328 is even cheaper.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. As all the previous peeps have said, the more questions the better, peeps here like to help.

I love the Cossie, deffo a very clean example and you shouldn't really have too many probs selling it.

As for your next choice of motor, the 2.2, although a fine engine, may be a little disappointing in the power department. You could consider the 2.5 or the 2.8 as very good alternatives. They have the extra grunt, but are very refined and classy still (plus still moddable ;) ). The 330 will cost you a little more than your budget + the extra insurance, etc.

Happy hunting...

Thanks for all the kind replies people, have now started lookin for a 323, think i can pick one up for the price i said i have to spend, seen a nice one for £11k with 51k on the clock, tis a W reg. Are there any main differences bewtween say a 02 plate, and a W reg, i notice some have diff steering wheels? Also, what kinda mileage can these engines handle??

peppernick
18-05-2005, 01:19 PM
If you can go for a later model with the M54 engine. Ie. 320, 325, 330. The 323 and 328 have older M52 engines and coupes especially built around 1999/2000 tend to have a problem with the rear subframe. It cracks. The later M54 engined cars come with re-inforced subframes. You should be able to pick up a 325 for less than £16k.

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/image/suspension/reinf_e46_subframe_2.jpg

Read about subframe problems here (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=230988&highlight=rear+subframe)

323 and 328 production ceased in 2001 and superceded by 325 and 330 respectively. The 320 2.2L was introduced with the 325/330 and the engine is an M54 unit.

K3V HA
18-05-2005, 01:32 PM
  Think ill stay away from 323's then, will prob just go for a 320 (2.2) version, will x or y regs have subframe problems? [hmm

peppernick
18-05-2005, 01:38 PM
As long as you stick to 320/325/330 (M54 engined cars) or even Valvetronic 318s you should not have any subframe problems.
