View Full Version : E46 M3 is an exhaust system worth it?

Getting used to the power and noise in my E46 M3 now and was thinking about getting my second mod (my first being an SSDD carbon intake, good quality but not that much difference in noise and power) and had been considering an exhaust system.

I dont really want something to boomy around town (think SR nova plus baseball cap for my worst nitemare!!). Like something which makes the most of the M3 engine note once you get the car more reved up and idealy creates a little extra power aswell.

There seems to be a lot of variation in prices from Scorpion SS systems at 3-400 to Gruppe M stuff at crazy money, which is the best combination for noise/ power improvement and price, any help much appreciated!!???:D

P.S. anyone know how you make the headlamp washers project to adjust the jet nozzles as like my last 330d sport, it only seems to do it when it feels like it and then only for two repitions before disappearing under the headlamps again!!?

Eisenmann all the way - you get what you pay for. GruppeM sounds godlike for about 3 seconds, after that your ears will bleed and everyone within 2 miles will hate you.

For the nozzles, ease a credit card in behind them and pull the mechanism out until the spring hits the stop, then hold it there with one hand while you clean/adjust the nozzles with the other. :)

Take it thats your M3 the Topaz coupe with the eisenman zorst, nice sound but, I do realy like the sound of the AA zorst on the other M3. What are the costs of both and whats your impression when driving for sound/ power improvement, hard to tell conclusively from youtube video?!:D

Chaos always has the answer! It'l prob be the easiest job my credit cards had this month!!!.... what is the damage for the eisenmann btw?

I much prefer the Eisenmann over the AA in that vid, it seems a deeper and more refined sound. The AA sounds like a raspy motorbike engine and a wee bit annoying!

Quality E46 M3 exhausts you're looking at around £1k new.

Both of those exhausts in the vid were mine, I sold the AA to Doc Matt. The AA and Eisenmann Race have distinctively different tones, both aggressive but most important thing is that they don't drone.

I've seen and heard a Scorpion exhaust. It's cheap for a good reason. Crap quality.

I have a AA exhaust on my M3, best sounding exhaust IMO full stop ;) . I don't know anyone else who has a Gen4 AA exhaust, very unique (which is what i really like about it to).

Having had an SS race system and heard a few others I would say the AA ;) but its all down to what you want it to sound like, what one person likes the another may hate. I dont think you can tell from sound clips, how many times do you listen to your car from the outside, you need to hear them on the car and with you inside as the boom can kill you :( Yes in summer windows down is different :D (or if you have a vert)

You can pick them up second hand, buy one, put it on and if you dont like it take it off, you will get your money back, then try another :D
Don't expect any BHP gains just enjoy the sound  and find some tunnels

Like Steve says, it's all down to sound preference, but most people go for the LeMans Race exhaust on an Eis. You sometimes see them come up in the sale forum, have to be quick though. ;)

Its only worth buying a back box for the sound.
the gains will be so small you wont notice the difference on a M3.
you will only see real gains if you get sports cats, X pipes and back box but its going to cost ya!

If its performance gains you are after without spending a fortune speak to CA about some RE light weight pullies and a sprint booster.

OK so anyone know Teddy @ SSDDs user name on here and who is CA Automotives rep on here and whats their user name to get the ball rolling with the best possible prices for the Eisenmann stuff?

p.s. Robin20mry have you got your Eisenmann on a 996 turbo or an M3? How do you rate the 996 turbo for reliability, cost of running, performance and value for money? .... any pics??

Wouldnt mind getting one in a years time or so when I change cause its so hard to think what else to change into thats an improvement on the M3 within a reasonable budget?..... unless anyone else has any thoughts on that one!!! (max. budget in 1 year hopefully 35K but that is absolute max so hopefully less!!):D

hi m8,

i had the exaust system thats on speeds car now, on my e46 m3, miltech cats and x-over hooker to the very eiesman "lemans" back box in the u tube snip!! not too loud, but sounded amazing! i did not suffer from loss of torque either, you should realy get a remap as well!

i have jut got a miltech system and cats for the 996 turbo as well (as well as a lot of other things!!)

you may want to bear in mind your std brakes are crap and wont last 2 mins, you would be faster point to point if you fitted aps to the front of your car first.

cheers robin.

Was very impressed by my brakes for fast road use, but have never been to a track with them, surprised to hear you didnt like them!

P.S. you never said what you thought of the 996 for reliability, cost of running and performance and no pictures either.... was looking forward to seeing them cause the spec sounds cool!!!
