I was considering one of these a while back. It would probably be a bit cheaper than the retrofit (think i found the head unit for £950) but decided against it, as in my opinion it wouldn't look as good as the OEM unit when fitted.

depends on how it is fitted.
a custom panel made for it, veneered in the finish of the trim would look pretty awsome.

Sorry to burst your bubble mate but ive been informed that that head unit would not fit int the e46 and you can check that on the kenwood website. the bottom half of the unit is too deep for the dash...

Theres a post on E46, fitting a double din unit. Some of the aircon ducting needs to be moved and hacked :D but it will fit.

either that or you can make the custom panel mould out slightly and get it to fit. it is tight but when the panel is veneered it flows well with the dash.
i've done one on a super charged 540 which will be unveiled at max power this year in birmingham.
the panel on this car was finished in piano black finish.

yea those above are by far the best! I remember bugging the guy about it but he just wouldnt make one :(. Havent checked around on fanatics in a while though. Did they ever get around to mass producing them?
