Just browsing through the alpine catalog that I got from ICA yesterday, saw the KCE-415i which is an iPod Video interface. Question is. Is this in addition to, or instead of, the 420i? I'm assuming it's instead of as the ipod can over ever be plugged into one "thing"

If it outputs audio / music playlists etc, and is compatible with the digital sound processor and my IVA head unit, i want it!

Andy, will this work with my setup?

I looked into this and from what I understood is that you have to actually have to everything from the iPod it self , so there is no control from the HU.

Contact alpine who had the following reply:

Dear sir,

The kce-415i does not allow for the same control on screen as the 420, but does give basic play pause and up and back track. Mainly i would use the i-pod itself for the control as this will allow fun functionality over the tracks and videos, this can be connected through any of the aux inputs on the vehicle hub and then selected through the orb to play the tracks on screen,

Hope this helps.

Regards

So looks as if its a replacement for the 420i and as Adood said requires majority of usage from the ipod itself.

...have no idea what "fun" functionality is though!

I don't think its a replacment usually with model numbers you go higher to indicate to teh customer that this is a better/new version so I'm thinking that the KCE-415i is a lower product than the 420i. Fas there is a video cable offered for iPods which gives you the yellow(video) & white/red(sound) outputs , if you have an extra Aux input you could have the cable tucked away somewhere and just use it if you ever want to put some videos on, and use the KCE-420i(I'm guessing you already have it  ) for when you usually play music ...etc

What we still need is a DivX capable head unit that played mpegs and avi files. Then you could get the KCE usb connection, give it a nice 80gig external hard drive and fill the bitch to the max.

Surely this is the future :) Then its ipod for music, hard drive for videos :D

iono? :p

So you mean to say you have a screen that will play avi files off a DVD etc?

Its completely dependant on if Pioneer have an adaptor interface for such things... hehe

Andy might know but I doubt its possible.

Basically if i connect my 30gb ipod i can play videos directly off that, so there no real point i guess.

Hmm thats not to say you can play DivX though, that just says it can follow the output from the iPod video. My head unit can play vids from my ipod but that doesnt mean it can play DivX.

I'd use your good friend Google (http://www.google.co.uk) :)

Soz I can't help more

you will need to burn a divx file onto a blank cd. it should then play on your pioneer x3.
