I picked up a 2nd hand SMG M3 steering wheel as i want to do a custom re-trim. Was thinking two tone of black/imola red, i will probably scrap the tri colour stitching a go with black and red.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The tri-colour is the M logo really. I say keep it the same no matter how u change the rest of the wheel. But that just me..;)

is it hard to replace the wheel? i know the one i just got does not have any of the wiring etc in it already is it hard to switch stuff over to this one? as the pictures show the one i bought is completely bare.

Also how difficult is it to remove the steering wheel in the first place? i have seen the DIY on bimmerdiy and it seem ok. My current wheel is in better nick than this one (on the reverse side there are a few tears in the rubber where the slots to release the air bag), i might just take my current one off a swap the paddles and wiring over to this and get my current one re-trimmed.

Very easy swap. But why would you want to send away your better wheel away instead of the mashed up one? Send away the mash-up one to get re-done completely, then keep your current one as a spare

can they replace the rubber section at the back of the steering wheel as well?

I like things to be perfect if possible, and little defects annoy me. As i said the back of the steering wheel, where you shove the screw driver in to release the air bag is torn on both sides. So if they can do this it would be cool Fas, i didn't know they did the back and front.

Styler, Red and Black will look soooo sick bro, especially that you have red interior ;)

Did you see Fas's steering wheels that day?

Styler. Gibson Trimming can do anything you want. Front / Back / rubber / whatever. Give them a call

http://www.gibsontrimming.com/

tell them you're with EvoT and that Fas sent you

Alllllright! Thanks brother :D , i will give them a bell next week. There is a local custom car interior company in Croydon, which i never knew about, might be interesting to see how good they are.

For interests sake, what is the back of the steering wheel covered in? it looks like leather, but feels like rubber?

It's rubber, but can be leathered

This is chaos's wheel. Get the purple bits, in imola, will look badass

Yep, thats what i have planned. Was thinking of doing some custom stitching also, might as well do something very unique if i'm going through the effort of getting it re-trimmed but not 100% sure what it will be.

I have a cool titanium colour CF lower center section coming for it already :) with the OEM M logo on it, tried to get the lower section made in red CF but no one makes those :(, i think it would have looked sick.

Gibson will do the stitching for you if you want - they did mine on that wheel (although Vinnie nearly killed me for making him do it :p).

Roy/Gio can pretty much CF anything you like I think, may be worth asking them to see if they can colour it too (if you haven't already).

What ever you decide styler I am sure it will look good. It will look sick with red carbon so hopefully you will get to source that!

The internet there was too slow so didnt bother checking. Just sent Teddy a pm to check on update so hopefully we can get it sorted out soon.

My steering wheel be back with me next week :)

Got a call from b-trim, should be done next week :) I went with as planned, two tone Black and Imola red. I didn't go for the tri coloured stitching as i didn't think it would go well with imola red, gone for all black stitching to keep it simple, i think it will look hot!

Really easy. I did a steering wheel and paddle swap recently for a friend and it took me 20 mins.

right, when can you come an do mine Nick? lol

Free cup of chai in it for you :) lol. I took the air bag and trim off before when i put the titanium CF trim on. but forgot to look at how the paddles are secured. Do i need any special screw driver bits?

i got one already :) on my current steering wheel i have a titanium CF center, but when i eventually get my OEM trim resprayed in silver grey i might take it off.

I think silver grey trim with really sharpen up the interior nicely, and make it look nice and clean along with my imola red M3 kick plates :)

Do you have any other CF trim bits?

Styler

nope lol, I just like it on the steering wheel. I think if i had the whole trim in CF it would be to OTT in titanium.

I have all 8 pieces CF trim and it makes HUGE difference!
Initially I was after silver CF trim, but bought a ASC steering wheel with standard CF so decided to go for a typical CF trim. :p

i finally picked it up today, been a bit busy lately. Will try and fit it tomorrow :D

There is nothing like the feel of a new steering wheel, nappa leather feels so nice and smooth.

lol, it does look pretty cool, the stitching is not very symmetrical though, especially at the bottom, but nothing too major.
