Hi,
I have a e46 convertible with the harmon kardon upgrade and also the minidisc headunit with 6 disk changer.

I wish to add to this a 12" JL W3 & Alpine amp, is this possible without disturbing the harmon kardon setup too much?

IS it possible to connect a sub to the mini disc headunit?

Where can a single disk headunit be purchased from? (I dont have a minidisc player!!)

thanks!

:)

Have you thought about Sub placement? It's near impossible to put a 12 straight under the hood stowage area unless you put it in at an angle, which has been done quite effectively before.

I've got 2 10's and they thump hard and they are the perfect size. If you're not bothered about sub placement and you want to go for a 12, then that's very possible.

The only thing you will need to remove is the HK sub, the rest stays where it is and is pretty effective. that's exactly what I'm running now, though I have a new head-unit and front componenents going in pretty soon.

With regard to the CD head-unit. Mine is being taken out any day now, and will be for sale. PM me if you're interested

Thanks for that, I will pm you!

Maybe a 10" would be better then? I may have to look into that instead do you have any photos of your boot install?

did your sub work well with the stock head unit?

Are there any wiring diagrams for doing this?

thanks in advance! :)

yes on a HK system you can change out the subs. Recommend? Depends on your budget and personal preference. there's JBL, JL Audio, Audiobahn, Diamond etc. etc. etc. What type of music do you listen to?

ye What type of music do you listen to?

..ahem.. RNB, Hip Hop, Garage so I need something that can play deep bass, i'm not into the boom boom punch bass.

So it's just a straight swap, no faffing about with any leads, amp settings?

Of course you'll need amps to run the new subs, there's no way the HK amp is up to the task. You can use the existing feeds from the stock speakers into an amp then into the subs.
