I've had this fault on my car now for at least 6 months and its getting annoying. Sometimes when i turn on my xenon's the right hand side xenon won't work and i get the light out warning on the dash. If i switch the car off or flick the lights on and off a couple of times the bulb will usually come on. Also i sometimes get the light out warning light on the dash which will stay on until i turn on the lights, both lights will be working and after about 30 secs the dash light goes out.
I've replaced the bulb and the ballast but i'm still having the same problem. It can't be a loose wire as it can be rectified by turning the switch on and off. Any ideas as i'm now confused and don't know what to try next:confused:

Hmm that is weird, i would of said its the Ballast, but you have changed it?
Mine does that sometimes, but i have manged to live with it!
Im not so sure, but would a re-flash by BMW help i wonder?

I was thinking along the lines of a reflash coz i really can't think of anything else.

maybe your ignitor is faulty. it's the small black box that's located inside the headlight unit

I thought the ignitor and ballast were the same thing, didn't realise there was something else inside the headlight. I'll replace that and see what happens. Cheers
I had the same problem ages ago, I think its a common fault, just book into the dealers and get the headlight replaced under your warranty.

No warranty and the dealers hate working on my car and will just blame it on one of the mods i've made. I've had the headlights to pieces a million times so replacing the ignitor will be easy. Found one on ebay for $30 :)

I fitted mine retrofit. Get the same problem and others. For instance, I have to turn the lights on before turning the ignition on otherwise sometimes just get warning light on dash. I think mine needs a reflash but dealers take one look at the car -vorsteiner bonnet and stuff and then blame any mod' for the problem!!!!!

I've had loads of grief with dealers / garages recently because of my mods. The car has been in and out of one place as they kept messing the alignment up blaming it on my coilovers. The last time i was in there aparrantly a parts driver from the dealers had seen my car in the workshop and told them that they wouldn't touch my car anymore due to all the mods. First i'd heard as it had been in for a service just a few weeks before. Considering sending some sort of an email to the dealers to find out why the dealer said what he did. Oh and it turned out the reason i was going through tyres in 500 miles and the handling was so bad was due to worn rear bushes. The problem was diagnosed by going somewhere else for alignment so also considering going back to the original alignment place to find out why they didn't realise it was the bushes which were at fault.
Now if i could just get this xenon problem fixed then everything would be good with the car.
