The Nissan GT-R is currently on sale in Japan, but won't launch in other parts of the world until March 2008. Apparently, some European customers can't wait three months to get their hands on Nissan's newest supercar so several business have been importing JDM GT-Rs for sale in the European Economic Area (EEA).
But Nissan claims that importing the JDM GT-Rs — which voids the car's warranty — actually infringes on the company's trademark rights and is threatening legal action. Nissan's other concern is that dealers in Europe are not yet equipped to service the GT-R. "Nissan's number one priority is to ensure that the GT-R and its dealer network are in optimal condition to facilitate and support our customers. It will take until start of sales in March 2009 to do this. Until that time the UK will have no GT-R trained technicians, no established GT-R parts supply and, most crucial of all, the GT-R will not be covered by a manufacturer's warranty," Nissan said.

someone with a lot of money. :D
I'm sure some of the Skyline specialists over here will make it their business to find out.
like Abbey Motorsports. they import and have contacts in Japan, with the right contacts nothing is insurmountable. (candidate for word of the day)

So what happens if someone buys a GTR in Japan and decides to go "touring" in it ?
No previous SKyline was ever officially available in this country, they are all grey imports. There will be no issues with servicing, maintaining and modifying the new skyline in this country. The same was true for Evo's and Impreza's, they were all grey imports. Manufactures just don't want to miss out on sales.

Wrong Jazz, there were 80 official UK spec R34 GTR's that were sold in the UK, all previous Skylines were imports;)
I think Middlehurst were the only outlet for the UK R34 GTR, I remember drooling over one:D

the new one seems a bit more advanced technology wise than the previous model
yeah but like the JDM civic type R for example.
send some people over, train some techys in Japan, buy some cars in Japan, ship the people, some cars and some spare parts over. make your own warranty, do an SVA. mark up the price and voila, you have a GTR on the road tomorrow.
I knew Middlehurt imported in skylines, didn't know they had official backing.
Most new model will be more advance than previous ones, it will just be a learning curve. Even the dealer technicians here have never worked on the previous GTR's so the independents will have a better base.

Sorry to correct you but,
I'm afraid you are little bit wrong here, there was a limited run of official uk spec Cars. The R33 was available in one model only, the top of the range V-Spec, and available through only one authorised Nissan dealer, Middlehurst Nissan in St. Helens. Priced at £50,000,:o

Nissans focus might not be targeted on the Uk where they know knowledge exists on these cars. I think they are concerned more about support in other country's in Europe.
