View Full Version : Best place for selling?

I'm looking for a bit of advice guys:
As you may or may not know, my wife is expecting. So in order to make it easier for her to get the nipper in, we need five doors and something a bit more economical on fuel!
(:( )
I'm thinking a Golf TDI PD 150 (yawn... but it fits the criteria! ).
Now, I need to sell mine and I'd normally use the auto trader, but there are SHITLOADS of E46's on there!
The only ones that seem to stand out are the dirt-cheap and the cheekily over-priced.
Is there a proven way that anyone can suggest (aside from offering my car up for peanuts!) for getting some good exposure of my car when I come to sell it?
Is Pistonheads worth a punt?

i got more calls from pistonheads than on autotrader, when i was selling my 330ci. notice the keyword ther, 'calls'. thats all it was! after 2 months, some elderly chap, pushed by his 20odd year old son, came and looked at my car as ther next family car. i lost a lot on it, in the end.

Well i see what you mean, my 330 went in 4 days when i wacked it on autotrader - and at the time there was shite loads of cars advertised.
Pistonheads is also a good place, the key i think is nice pictures of a clean car :)
Try both Autotrader and Pistonheads. I ended up trading mine though as I only had time wasters phone. The problem will be time of year. But deffo give it a go.
As for the PD150..great car and after a few choice mods will be seriously nippy return excellent mpg.

Thanks guys.
I've been looking at Golfs for a while and settled on either the PD 130 or the 150, depending upon how much/ little I sell the 330 for... My only concern is that I've heard the 150 can be a bit fragile!???!!
Does the ET FS section ever reap any car sales? I'd suspect not due to this being a forum for enthusiasts who already own a BM.
What do you think?
Good call about the time of year, I'd been a bit worried about that! Bugger.

It's gotta be worth a go mate, There may be users thinkin about upgrading or i'm sure plenty will have mates looking to get into the BM scene. I have a pal whos looking for one but he needs a diesel due to covering mega miles for work. :D

Just out of interest, why do you think your car isn't suitable for family? I've had my son and daughter in the vert from birth no problem. Coupe is nothing if not more practical. Isofix seats means seats lock in, and if you buy your baby accessories sensibly, pushchairs and all the crap that goes with them fit in the boot perfectly. No need to change cars IMHO
PS. Congrats on the up-coming birth of your child. Another member of the EvoT Parent Club :)

^ That's what I said!
Thanks too for the congratulations, it's all just about sinking in...
Anyway She Who Must Be Obeyed wants the 'convenience' of 4 doors so I may also consider a 320/ 330D.
On local runs the 330 is lucky to get 20mpg which is shit... :(
I love being 18 nothign to worry about boot full of ice, and i got front seats reclined, no passengers to carry :D:D

Auto trader, Top Marks & Pistonheads are probably the best - sold my wife's Audi A3 1.8T, daughter's 1.9Ti sport compact & Jay's M3 all for on or near asking price within a week during the last 2 months - it's all down to making the AD really good - ask Sport Coupe !!:D Photo's & text by arrangement !

as you know mate, i was in the same boat as you a year ago when we were expecting our 3rd child and was told to get a family car but it does'nt mean you have to go all grandad on us:D just be sensible
thats why i have a 318i saloon that suits me down to the ground!(still looks pimpin imo)
i think you should sell the 330ci and get something like raj's old car the 330d saloon or similar.
you've only got one child coming at the moment(i presume) and i can get 3 kids and a fat wife in mine no problem.
kids are expensive but dont pannic you will still be able to carry on modding on a small scale if you put your foot down!
anyway good luck with whatever you choose.
