I've just realised this but I no longer get the low fuel warning beep on start up. I know I used to when I switch on the car, but no matter how low the fuel is, I don't get the beep anymore. Anyone got any idea why this is, or how I can fix this?

Are you sure it was a low fuel beep? I've never come across this before. Maybe you're thinking of the temprature beep. It beeps when the outside temp hit's 3degrees....., hence in hotter weather it will not beep.

I don't think it is for low fuel as far as I know there isn't one on the BMs. Just the indication light to show you are into the reserve. It could be the 3degree warning.

Maybe I've taken too much mushrooms but I'm pretty sure there is one as I was commenting on the similar feature on my previous car (Passat). Yup, the cold weather thing is still working fine. BTW, once the warning lamp comes on, how many litres does the reserve tank hold?

I think its 10 litres on the E46, It was only 5 litres on the E36 if I remember correctly.

I can usually get 50-60 miles easily out of my vert when the light comes on :) Had it as low as 2 miles before on the computer and the car wasn't spluttering

i fill up 10/20 quid asap when the light turns on usually. I never fill up full tank though. Even loong journeys. Most ive ever put in one go was £30. I think lowest ive gone on obc is 18 miles left.

I ran my E46 325 down to 3 miles once and it was fine, I ran my E46 M3 down to 22 miles last week and it spluttered and cut out on me as I pulled in to the petrol station..

yeah i think itsmaybe best to fill up when th elight comes on you don;t really wanna run the fuel to low incase u get some dirt in the fuel lines that get through the petrol filter

If you drive it around for long enough after it has been on 0 for some time, you will get a dotted line appear. :D

Kav, I've had this discussion before re going low in the fuel tank and dirt getting through. The pick up in the tank is always in the same place ie at the bottom of the tank, so you would be just as likely to pick up dirt with a full tank after the car has sat for a while, as you would by going low. But then again, I am a lazy git and like to fill to the top and use to the bottom so I don't spend too much time in the petrol station. I've managed to get over 54 quid in the tank before in one go. Saying that though, I've still not quite managed to get 300 miles from 1 tank full yet!!
