does anybody know if a 328 lump will go straight into a 323 both coupes?

also the 328 is manual and the 323 auto, does this mean the 323 will have be changed to manual?

If you have all the parts, shouldn't be a problem. However, it's little things like engine mounts, manifold clearance, different ECU etc that adds complexity to the entire procedure. Unless you speak to someone who has done it before and can give you full details, you cannot be absolutely sure it's a direct replacement, even if the engine looks the same.
