Dude, if you're serious about going for your bike test, CBT and all that good stuff, PLEASE let me know. I've been dying to do this as well, so hopefully we can get it done together.
I want to buy me one of these suckas

Ots wants to do it too, and so does my Cousin. That would be a great fun!
Lets work it out soon.
Those bikes are crazy, I was watching the bike build off over the weekend, and there are some crazy choppers out there, but very expensive. I'll stick to the sports bikes. You, ots and my Cousin (Amit), seem to all be on the same wave length.

hehe, man, I thought I was the only one in front of Home and Leisure on Saturday :D
The best one, the blue one with the air suspension. Oh my god!! He also one best of series too! He sold it for $200,000
I'm a HUGE fan of American Chopper too. I phoned them up after series one as I wanted to know how much they went for. $70,000 for a hardtail. I phoned them up again, because of the success of the show, they won't talk to you for less than $150,000, the price of fame 'eh.
best bike builder bar none, Jesse James of west coast choppers, 3 year waiting list :(
Let's get the bike thing done in March or something, as the weather will be better and biking season will be just getting started.

Yeah dude, spent most of the day watching that. That was my favorite too, and he won!
Order's must have been crazy after that.
Ok March, your right weather will be better too.

let's get it booked! Anyone else in?
can you imagine, how cool would it look all EvoTechnik crew roll up in the tricked out Beemers, with a bike trailer at the back towing tricked out Duc's!!!
Sick!
Duc's insurance is going to be a killer :( I'll get a Yamaha R6 and work up to the 1!!

Ahhh biking, the one place where I've got decent kit and can compare with other people's without feeling like a noob! I've had my bike licence just a few years already. ;) It was a little easier to get back when I got mine. you new guys have to really earn it these days.. :( You'll probably find that an R6 will be more to insure than a 748 tho Fas, just a heads-up! Just go the whole hog, buy a 916 Senna (already sprayed graphite so just lift off the Duke stickers and re-place with EvoTechnik ones.. ), job's done.
That said, and speaking as an ex-journo, you'd be Gods among the media world with a crew of Evo Beemers and bikes. The bike mags would be fighting to write up that one, seriously, I imagine the car mags would be keen too.

Hey Chaos, being a total noob when it comes to bikes (all I know is that it looks good and roars :D), why would a 748 be less to insure than the r6? My naive assumption would be the ducati is the equivalent of Ferrari, doesn't have to be the most powerful thing on the road, but the "kudos" is there hence the insurance hike. If I'm wrong, and a 748 is cheaper to insure, then it could well be in my destiny too :D

Not really a fan of Ducs. Don't quite like the noise they make. But I love the R1 with a Yoshimura exhaust.........I would love to do it but my wife and parents will burn the bike before I even got near it!

Hehe R6/1 and esp the 7 are lovely bikes. Totally different riding experience to a 748/916 aswell.
Fas, the difference is really the perception of insurance companies as to who rides the bikes. It's similar to the analagy you had - how many Ferrari owners do you know who are young and reckless? Not many, they've mostly done their ragging and buy a top car to look after it. Likewise, most Dukes have the image of an experienced rider as opposed to the R6's thrash-happy one. It's probably not true and I know as sure as eggs is oval that I used to be a rebel on both, but that's how they seem to price it. I guess with some shopping around you could find both cheaper than the other though - bike insurance has always been a little flakey like that. ;)
I've got a rather amusing story concerning a 916 and my first day working with a bike magazine that I'll bore you with some time. Dukes really are a breed apart from your usual 4-cyl beast. :)

Awesome. Look forward to meeting you and picking your brains and getting all the advice.
To be honest, I sincerely don't like the idea of doing Basic Training and then jumping on a powerful bike. Thinking about it, I'd rather start off on a relatively slow bike and get the experience under my belt. I can't afford to lose a limb or my faculties, or god forbid, my life, through pure lack of experience.
What I'd like to do is do the tests, ride around for a year and then go on a police training course, then I'll progress up to something better / faster

I couldn't recommend a better plan. Bikes like the Dukes, Rs, CBRs, etc are fantastic pieces of kit but they're a whole different ball game from the 125s you'll do your test on. It'd be like getting out of a 116d and into an M3. Seriously. As keen as anyone is, it's not worth killing yourself by biting off more than you can chew - cos those big babies bite back.
Get the test under your belt, buy yourself a nice little 400-or-so and spend a year learning to thrash the ass off it 'properly' (track days help a lot, some good ones at Cadwell and Brands), then start looking at 748s or R6s when you feel comfortable and start to notice the limitations of the smaller bike. You'll need to be very special to notice the limitations of bikes like the Dukes, but they'll find yours very quickly, so always best not to try that once you finally get one. ;)
As I said, I did all my 2-wheel stuff a while back. I passed my test in '85, for example. Yup, I'm an old bugger. :p But if I can help, I will. If I can answer any questions, I will. And mostly, if I can bore you to death with tales of racing and/or specs of my bike, I will. :p
Dudes.... the only reason I'm growing my hair long is so that I can look slightly more authentic behind a steely chopper or Harley.... raised handle bars and all..
At the prices Durg was mentioning I think it's a bargain....

Don't do it Ots! You know ass-in-the-air rioding makes less sense and will therefore be more fun!! :D

Nice to hear you guys are thinking about biking.
it's so much fun!!! especially if you live in London.
my first bike before i passed my test was a yellow cagiva mito 125 ( looks exactly like a duc),went out with my biker friends for a morning spin in Kent one weekend and had a crash round the bend due to lack of experience, broke my collar bone. :( painful.
then after i passed my test i swapped it for a aprilla 250.
felt a big difference at the time between 125 and 250.
after a year or so bought myself a ninja 6R until now.
The new R1 looks hot, if i do change that would be the one i am gonna get.
me and myfriend was thinking of taking some wheelie lessons, should be fun.
been to cadwell, i think it's a good track.
will wait for you guys for bike meet next year!!!!!
Chaos.... it's a style thing ;)

I would definitely be up for getting my own EvoTechnik bike if I pass the bike tests. Not chrome shadow though, I've been around enough bikers to know that even the best of them will somehow manage to drop one on the ground. Bye bye paint job!
I reckon, a nice Honda CBR 600 (eventually), and paint it Pheonix Yellow, or Laguna Seca Blue, it has to be an obvious BMW colour :) would look hot. Get the evotechnik logo airbrushed onto the petrol tank.
Get some custom wheels made up to in the ACS Type 3 design. How insane would that looK!

don't forget about the custom made helmet and matching leathers too.
custom paint would not be a good idea, you will probably need to respray every few months.

Hehe was browsing through some videos earlier and found this peach R6 vid (http://www.superbike.co.uk/images/for_web/downloads/video_thumbs/13_4_4/R6-Crash.wmv) . It's what happens when you do a nice, simple trick and then get all carried away. Literally. ;) Just thought it was topical what with talk of new riders and R6s.. :)
