hi to all members

if you remember our previous thread on the E24 6 series we are building to enter the Tuner grand prix in september 2005 ( http://sankeys.demon.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1299 ) , then here are the latest pics taken today , after initial painting , in BMW carbon black ...an awesome colour , totally factory but can see blue / purple in it depending on lighting .

Off to sweden in 5 weeks with owner to se bench dyno ing of the engine ....hopefully 650 bhp .....:) cany wait

for those members ( such as myself ) with short memories ( what drug abuse ....?) , those arches are off an E46 M3 , cut and welded to fit .

Kerscher KRC 9 and 10 inch staggered wheels are ready to fit , but we are taking avote as to weather to keep them all silver with polished rim or carbon black centres with polished rim ....

we would be grateful for memebers ' votes on this issue please

Wow, she's coming along nicely Roy [cool

For such a beast of a car, I vote the evil look. Black wheel centrtes and deep polished lips ;)

Agree with nick, black centres with polished lip. You've seen Lee's ride, you know the effect ;)

what are the engine specs on that thing? And why the need to go to Sweden for dyno testing? No-one here can do it? I know the scandinavians are leading the way in Forced Induction, so I'm assuming the expertise lays there as well?

trhanks Nick , I am with you on this one

we are planning abit of a " retro brute" look on this project , with just factory body parts , maybe some subtle deffusers for downforce , and the CSL style cf boot and louvred cf bonnet ( for cooling )

very eager to get other members opinions on this one to ....

regards

woah... seems to be going pretty good mate, one mean mutha! is it still going to be rwd? what diff are you planning on putting on it? will there be anykind of rollcage?
supercharged S62 lump.. nice... any idea of the weight of the car? should have some serious power to weight ratio!

Nice one. It is really coming along  . I think black centres would just look the business with that carbon black paint job and a CSL bootlid. It is going to go like stink with 650 horses ready to be unleashed [bow .

Oh Roy, don't forget yellow Brembo calipers ;)

Looks like a muscle beast Roy, would love to see some of it finished and ready to rumble. I'd say much the same as the others, keep it looking mean and muscly, the overall effect will be much more dominating than whacking spoilers all over it etc. I think you're going a good route with what you've got planned although I'm not sure if the CSL duck lip will suit the back if you don't do something low on the front, maybe I just can't quite picture it in my head, I'm ready to stand corrected! :)

cheers guys

also ...yes will have partial roll cage ; still bebating final weight but the carbon hood and trunk will save about 30 kilos i reckon , so that s a start .....

diff will be 540 sport with LSD

car will also be keeping all the chrome rather than blacking it out

heavy tint windows

quad exit exhaust ( customer wanted side exit but i slapped him out of that idea :))

If any one else has any ideas to input we would love to hear them ..........

Chaos

LOL nice slapping Roy, side exits would have wrecked the lines on that baby.. [bang You going for stock wing mirrors or some more rounded/aerodynamic ones (or none at all)? Still can't get my eyes off the vent in the front wing, that looks hardcore.. I take it with a half cage you're going to go buckets and 4-points inside? If so, leather or alcantara? ;)

Projects like this just have so many options.. :D

will it be a legal road car? or purpose built for the track? if so, what about having clear perspex for the windows to keep weight down?

THANKS GUYS

believe it or nay , we the prime brief for this car by the owner was :

- everyday driver with lots low down torque ( like I always say ...forget BHP , torque wins races and bhp sells cars .....to the unitiated that is )
- M5 beater
- retro looks

good point on visual balance against the csl boot hump ...we are considering oem M6 front "air dam " BMW call it .

MIRRORS !!! damn ! thanks guys , completely forgot that one ....me very bad ..how could I ...will get onto this now , thanks again .

We are commisioning the master Jamie at Carisma for the interior ...a secret for just now ......( in other words customer has not decided ) .

What makes this project so great for u sis that the customer i s a rally nice guy , really enthusiastic about this whole project and is not shy of spending the money when waranted ; makes our job that much easier

we are grateful for all these ideas , do please keep them coming one and all , we appreciate it .

what about these considerations :

- lambo doors (still allowing up to 40 degree door opening in normal oem swing out fashion ) straight up ,not Merc butterfly style ?
- 4 x 83mm straight exit quad exhaust , or twin centre ( like 6 series E24 oem style ) exhaust ? any other appropriate suggestions ?
- carbon e46 door handles OR shaved and flushed ( i.e. no DOOR HANDLES ) and solenoid operated doors with hidden activator switch ?
- what colour calipers ...silver , yellow , black ,silver , blue or red ? Your vote please ....
- any other ideas ?

thnx all

Id go for the black centres but im biased. :o with yellow calipers.

Not sure about the chrome idea, not to good on a black car.

Roy, with regard to the interior, have you heard of a company called "D-Class"?

I saw their work for the first time at hot import nights. Their work is amazing. They will do anything you want and their prices are actually pretty reasonable.

This is just one example of their work. Subaru Impreza, Connolly Leather, custom stitching with neon, yes, NEON, piping.

They had about 6 cars in the show, and I couldn't fault their work on any one of them.

Yeah that subaru interior was awesome. I dont like carisma, had a run in with them before and it cost a friend of mine thousands due to Jamies attitude. I wont write what i think of him

Unfortunately, I think there's a lot of people with those kinds of stories about them

Indeed Kav. But if you had lost thousands due to bad workmanship, would YOU recommend them? Didn't think so

I'm right with Ali on just about everything he said there. Hidden door handles are a trademark of American muscle and would follow on nicely.

As for calipers, I'd say either silver to compliment the chrome on the car or yellow to stand out.

And yes, that Imprezza could easily have looked OTT but in the flesh it looked gorgeous! I'd go for something a bit more subtle with this project Roy but those guys look like they're not short of a few ideas.

there are always 2 sides to a story ;) 3 of my mate shave had first class work done from them and they have never had any issue with jamie hes a top bloke and I would recommend him, Lees mate obviously had a bad experience but there are plenty of people who have had problems with companies and will not use them again, and some other people have had great service from the same company its swings and roundabouts my experience with his work has been positive so just for record fas i would recommend them to my mates ;)

Nay the story is, we had just rebuilt an engine for some serious power circa 450bhp. We dropped the car off at carisma for the interior and exterior work and told them not to drive the car as it didnt even have a base map on the autronic ECU ( car was dropped on a trailor). There were no excuses as the car weighed nothing and could be easily pushed around the workshop, told us they understood and that there was no reason to move it, all work could be carried out there.

When we came to pick the car up, it would not start and had 30 miles extra on the clock. When we confronted jamie he got mad after a heated debate and booted the wing and door twice. dented both. The car had the living daylights thrashed out of it. There was rubber off the tyres stuck under the sills! The engine needed all four pistons replacing (JE special order) and various other bits.

Hence i would never recommend them.
