Hi,

I have a 330ci that was built in september 2000. I believe that on these cars BMW tried a lighter power steering system, but later in production abandoned it due to this increased lightness causing a lack of feel.

I assume that this change was brought about purely through a different spec of power steering pump and not through any changes in the rack itself, am I right to assume this?

Is it possible for me to therefore simply change my power steering pump to a later model to get the weight back in my steering?

I have previously had an e46 323, and my Mum has an e46 328 and both felt much nicer to drive due to this.
I hope someone can confirm either way whether or not this is possible.

Cheers,

Nick Avis.

Never heard of this at work?? The part number for the power steering pump was changed in 09/99 so until this point even the M54 as fitted in a 330 used the same pump as a car with M52 Tu (323, 328) from then the next part number change for the 330 was in 09/02 and this was used until the E46 was finished in 2006. Also the retaining bolts for the pumps changed in length. But seeing as the early pump was used on the 330 engine it should fit on your car. But then you have to consider whether the rack was modified to adhear to the changes within the pump?

Also, I have never thought my steering to be too light! lol my car is an 08/02 build. Feels just right ;)
