You got an Ipaq or anything similar that you could throw a gps sleeve on and run that way?

The tomtom go seems to be a popular option. There is software out which enables your phone to give you sat nav (phone dependant of course). As chaos said, a PDA may be another option with tomtom software, this way you can benefit from using the PDA for other things. see here:

my friend just bought to the tom tom go portable unti which is around 400 pounds or so..and he is very happy with it...

still havne't seen it up close and he isn't very tech advanced..so don't quote me on that..

but have read its good...and u can move it around to different cars etc...so its pretty handy!

I've used tomtom3 on a ipaq mounted in a couple of different cars, very simple to use, and pretty accurate.. quite easy to take the gps unit/pda/power cable to different cars, may look alittle untidy, but if your only going to be using it in one car, simply tuck the cables away out of sight.. highly recommended.

should hopefully work abroad too, aslong as the maps are loaded onto the pda memory card.

I cannot fault TOM TOM GO. I bought this for my little sister and it is amazing. It wipes the floor with the OEM BMW SatNav which is pitiful in comparison and it also embarrasses the expensive Pioneer AVIC-990 setup I have in my VW Golf! Go with TOM TOM Go - you won't regret the decision. Halfords are doing a pretty good deal and Dixons/Currys usually have some online vouchers you can search for to get a discount thrown in. :)
