Despite the jet lag, the weekend gone was definitely one of the most enjoyable outing. I flew in from New York City the night before, slept for 4 hours and was on my way to Folkstone at 6am ........ but what a weekend!

Highlight of the trip was this :D .......... Sneaking onto the track at Adenau Bridge and this was what we had in front of us ........

Literally could see jack! ....

.... but amidst the darkness, a bunch of pranksters .... :D

And BMWland ....

We had some paint left over, and the Doc got his hands on it  ..... :D

He even bap-pisstised ExMuhle so that no one overtakes a blue M3 vert at that corner ....

With the left over paint, we had a firefly dance ......

Going to go through my pics later but suffice to say what a bloody excellent weekend. Some of the very best people to spend time with :D . I didn't stop laughing when we went onto the track for our little bit of artwork. Just finished stripping my brakes for the second time and am now back to OEM front disks and axxis pads. Finally the vibration is gone and so it is official, I have managed to bend the DBA5000s :( . I put this down to the crappy single pot sliding calipers as the warping is a little odd when you view it but never mind - BBK next, only thing that I want now then I can really give the M3 some grief :D . Can't wait until our return next year. Pics and writeup to follow.

When it comes to the baddest Porsche, Edo Competition wins. Interesting to see a 993 Turbo and a 997. I asked one of the personnels why there wasn't a 996, he said the 996 was too unreliable and not sharp enough. The 997 is the proper model to succeed the 993. Interesting.

A lathe may be a tad harsh, Nick.. :D Paul, if it's surface corruption then skimming may sort it, we can get that done for you without too much bother. If it's actually visibly warped tho, it's dead Jim...

I probably exaggerated about the 'warping'. Basically, with the nearside wheel removed, when you spin the brake disk it binds up at three points during a single rotation. It is fine with the OEM disks back in now but I guess it is down to my driving style. I like to carry alot of speed into a corner, probably using the brakes excessively. I can't seem to change my driving style so best change the brakes :p .

Anyway, here is my little writeup. Started off at around 7am from maidstone services to catch the 8:20am out from folkstone. Pretty uneventful journey down so straight to the hotel we went, checked in, dumped the bags and off to the 'Ring.

I got in three laps that evening and it was pretty empty, car seemed good but very understeery which resulted in me going for an excursion at one lap going through Breidsheid :o . Only shot over a bit of grass so no damage done other than to my pride. Understeer got me again, this time at chicane with Nick as a passenger (sorry mate). I had just finished blabbing on about the understeer when suddenly it hit me again and we went ripping over the grass into flugplatz, bollox, but again no harn done and a wake up call. That was it, the car was awesome until some spanner in an Astra wouldn't let me past and to hammer his point home he locked up in front of me so my only option of safety was more grass  . Other than the brakes getting a bit bendy the car was immense, can't wait to try it with a BBK next year ;) .

Here are my pics, all 40 of them  !!!!!!

Finally get a chance to log on after the weekend. What a great time had by all.

The weekend started at 3am on Friday for me. Only 3.5 hours sleep unfortunately as the week was manic so had to do all my packing and washing of the car and other bits on Thursday night. Was supposed to meet Matt at J7 of the M6 (our usual) at 4am but as my little 'un woke up as I was getting ready I had to put him back to sleep first. So I told Matt to head off and keep to 60 so I could catch up a little way on the journey.

Ended up meeting Matt at about Gaydon... , hard to believe as he was doing 60ish and I was doing a ton..
After going passed him, I realised the one crucial thing I had forgotten (I really need to start sorting stuff earlier next time)....THE CAMERA....aghhhh. Theres wasn't enough time to go back, so no pics for me....BASTID.

We decide to pick up a little speed and headed down to Portsmouth to pick up Shak.

From there, we headed to The Tunnel. As we got caught in a little traffic, we decided at the first opportunity to really start to get into the weekend. From the slip road off the M25, we gunned it across 3 lanes of traffic and got to some very interesting figures...:D . I think at this point Shak decided he may not want to get into a car with me...:o .

Onto the tunnel and off the otherside we then met up with the rest of the gang at the TOTAL garage.

After taking an interesting detour (cheers Mike), we were back onto the open motorways. Traffic was heavy through out the journey to the hotel, but there were always opportunities to open up the cars a little. My trip would not be complete without me trying to get through the smallest gap I could find at least once (Alex knows what I mean....;) :D ).

Anyway, after dropping our stuff off, we head to the Ring where I get in a couple of laps. It's good to be back. Nick took me out for his first lap in the Z4M.......WOW, what a car. It is just so well balanced and with the mods Nick has done to her, she is truely awesome. Sounds just soooo right and goes so well. The Brembos are phenominal and you really can carry so much speed through the bends with her. If I had the money, I would buy her in a heartbeat.

Dinner at PK was a must that evening (infact we were booked in both nights) and then back to the hotel for a bit of a chill out.

Saturday consisted of getting up and heading straight to the Ring for the day. The roads to the Ring are nearly as enjoyable as the Ring itself...   .

As Nick has said, Paul was there in his GT3 RS and he took me out of a PAX lap (seriously thanks for that Paul). The grin on my face must have been seen from Mars... Seriously stunning car and Porsche definitely got it right...   .

Another highlight was another PAX lap in Nicks Z4M, but this time with the roof down. We ended up catching a Corvette but he wouldn't let us pass, so Nick decided to have some fun and just stay on his tail. It must have been such a site for the driver and those watching at the viewing points, seeing us all over this Corvette with big smiles on our faces and the top down....LOL.

Sunday saw Alex's M5 being taken away (what a sad site) and then us heading back to the Ring for the final day.

We decided to start back at about 2pm as we thought with it being the DTM weekend traffic would be murder if we left it any longer. In usual fashion, Matt and I decided a leasurely drive was not for us and we gunned it... Nick and Mike decided to go with us so there we were 4 loony BMs charging through Germany. Unfortunately, Mike got caught up behind some traffic and we ended up with just Matt, Nick and myself. The 330d held its own, well at least to about 125ish at which point Matt did start to edge away. I did find out something interesting though..... Cruise control does work at 140.....LOL. Nick also ended up getting caught behind some seriously slow moving cars and then there was just Matt and I.

Finally got to the Tunnel to find that even though we had made excellent time and did the journey in about 3 hours, we still couldn't get onto an earlier train. So we had some food, as the rest of the gang caught up with us and then waited for what seemed like ages until being called through. We were then delayed at passport control and had to queue for quite some time before being able to board the train.

Got off the train back on UK soil at just before 10pm and then started the long drive home to Wolverhampton. After clocking up 1400 miles in 3 days I finally walked through the front door at 12:15am...that wasn't too bad considering door to door from the Tunnel to my house is 247miles....:D .

The D performed very well and over the whole weekend I still managed a healthy 31.6mpg......

My trip would not be complete without me trying to get through the smallest gap I could find at least once (Alex knows what I mean....;) :D ).

you could barely fit a gnats bollock through the gap you went through mate...

I found a pic of the E36 that actually went over the armco and into the ravine at Brunchenn  No roll cage, the roof was squashed. The driver had a lucky escape.

No big deal Nick,I see this sort of thing day in day out.To be honest theres no better feeling than putting a strop or a set of chains through a car and lifting it up dangling it for all to see before it get dumped on the back of the truck :D :D

Looks awesome guys - just like ever trip to the 'Ring should be!

I'm there first weekend in October, with a day at Spa on the Monday. Would have loved to come to this one but already had plans for that weekend!

Will be there a fair bit next year though (3-4 trips planned, and plenty of track mods for the Z over the winter months), so will definately make sure I see you there next time! :D

As already said, great to see you all again. And a massive thanks to Matt for going out of his way to pick me up and drop me off for the weekend, as well as everyone else for the PAX laps!

We set off from Calais and I was able to take the following photos. At one point, I swapped over to Tariq's 335d so I could get one of Matt, but Nick somehow ended up further up the motorway as we took a slightly different route. I didn't manage to get any of Tariq at any point, though. He was just too quick lol.

EDO Competition made an appearance. Like Nick said, they didn't bring their 996, but a 997, along with a 993. A rather nice young lady was at the wheel of the 993!

Due to a track closure, the officials had to stop letting people in, and the queue outside of the 'Ring car park didn't stop.

Closed track again, so the wait begins. This time, four motorbikes had gone off at the same time, and we think one of the riders may have died. :( I saw all four motorbikes being trailered off after about an hour. :(

Sabine wasn't to be seen this weekend, but the 'Ring Taxis still made an appearance. Apparently, they now have to stick to certain speed limits. I don't know if there's any truth in that. We still saw some sideways action, but I didn't catch of that with my camera.

There were two red E30 M3s there. One of them had made a hell of a (good) noise. It turns out, a E34 M5 3.6 engine had been fitted!

Not long before we left, good old TVR had to show their unreliability in spectacular fashion, with the bonnet flying off after the car fishtailed into Brunchen, mounting a high kerb, somehow missing the armco, where all four wheels left the ground before landing across the track! They weren't able to restart the car, so had to wait for the costly recovery company.

Last but not least, just before we departed, we did a quick group shot. As you know, unfortunately Alex's M5 had to be picked up, due to a brake pad being non-existent.

http://nurburgring.5h4k.co.uk/aug_sept_07/other/images/DSC_1589.jpg

On the way out, we spotted two E90 M3s heading in the opposite direction. Both had quad exhasuts and various parts of the car taped up. Though it was too late to catch any photos of them.
