THREE!!!

One to bring the car (me), one to bring the bulbs (Teddy) and one to provide the garage (Mark). All credit to Teddy and Mark for doing the work!!

Teddy of SSDD Motorsport (http://www.ssdd-motorsport.com/) has imported new Angel Eye bulbs for the E90/E91/E92/E93, and believes these are the first in the UK (the Yanks have already got them though!!).

The bulb is by Suntex Tuning Parts and is available in Shark Blue (the bulbs we were trying), Dak Yellow, Eagle White, Green Shark or Bull Red... All available from Teddy of course...

Teddy asked if he could try them on my E90 for the purposes of writing a DIY install, taking pictures of the install and showing the finished effect etc... If I liked them, I could buy them for a nice discount... :D

Unfortunately, changing bulbs in the E90 is not simple. You have to take off the front wheels to access the bulbs!! Its not as simple as accessing them in the engine bay (unless you have a special tool for the drivers side only). :(

This meant changing the bulbs was a 3 hour effort!!! :bulge: removing the panelling in the wheel bay and accessing the bulbs by opening their plastic protective housings.

So first, the car was jacked up...

Teddy and Mark began removing the panelling in the wheel bay...

You can see the panelling in this shot...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0435.jpg

And finally removed...

Teddy begins removing the OEM Angel Eye bulb...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0442.jpg

And the first one is done! Guess which one is the new bulb!!

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0456.jpg

It was a very fiddly job with all sorts of oriffices explored...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0461.jpg

Now for the other side...

Teddy compiling his DIY...

Both are changed!!

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0478.jpg

Now, the panelling has to be put back...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0489.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0490.jpg

Surprising how much team effort was involved, just for changing bulbs!!

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0495.jpg

With panelling all screwed back in to place, my 162's can go back on...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0505.jpg

And my E90 is lowered back to terra firma...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0512.jpg

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0513.jpg

The finished effect...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0524.jpg

The HIDs will need changing now to match!!!

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0528.jpg

And with the xenons on...

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k137/beauforty/Angel%20Eyes%20Bulb%20Change/IMG_0530.jpg

So, that's how many guys it takes to change a light bulb!!! :D

Mods to date: Blacklines, Short Shifter, H&R Springs, Eibach Spacers, Suntex Blue Shark Angels... If peppernick had his way, I would have ACS bodykit, Eisenmann exhaust and BBS alloys too!!

Wow! What an improvement over stock  Paul you need 8000k xenon bulbs now to match.

We have to pioneer something like this on the E92, but using E46 angel eyes :D Watch this space ;)

I know, Teddy and I were discussing changing the D1S bulb, possibly for the D2S bulb? Maybe it will work? We will try next time...

the latest 90/E91/E92 have gone back to D2S according to my local dealer BMW realised that using a D1S is a slight problem for some reason so depending on year of car there is a changeover point where new cars now also use D2S just like those on E39/E46 etc

the earlier E90/E91/E92 etc still have D1S xenon bulbs

E90 Angel Eyes Bulb Repacement DIY:
Difficulty Rating: 3 out of 10 (not technically difficult but a lot of work is involved due to jacking the car up and taking the inner trim off)
Time: car jacked up - 1.5-2 hours, car on ramp - 1-1.5 hour
Tools: torx screw driver (for removing OEM angel eye bulbs), 8mm socket, 10mm socket (for removing inner arch trim), car jack, wheel wrench and sockets, torch (helpful).

1. jack the car up or put it on the ramp - some say you can access the light cover from inside the engine bay - tried and it's really impossible for a normal adult with average size hands. Take the front wheel off and remove the inner arch trim:
http://usera.imagecave.com/mysticm32/E90/1.JPG

2. more screws to undo at the bottom. There are quite a few of them so make sure you undo all thats necessary:
http://usera.imagecave.com/mysticm32/E90/2.JPG

3. This is what it looks like with the trim off:
http://usera.imagecave.com/mysticm32/E90/3.JPG

4. locate the angel eye bulb cover (where the screw drive is pointing in the picture). Use a flathead screw driver to undo the top clip then the bottom clip:
http://usera.imagecave.com/mysticm32/E90/4.JPG

5. Remove the angel eye bulb cover:
http://usera.imagecave.com/mysticm32/E90/5.JPG

6 and 7. Use a torx screw bit to undo the two screws holding the OEM angle eye bulb. Remember how the OEM bulb is positioned. (disconnect the power cables on the back first, they just pull off):
http://usera.imagecave.com/mysticm32/E90/6.JPG
http://usera.imagecave.com/mysticm32/E90/7.JPG

8. Install the SSDD angel eye bulb and reconnect the power cables. make sure you get the polarity right otherwise it won't work. Turn the side lights on to test and refit everything back on again:

:O 114 quid to make angel eyes more modern looking and not yellow! jeez i want to do this on the e92 arent they just normal H8 35watt bulbs but with a higher 'K' so they look white? i know they sell them in the US and japan but do u have them at SSD?!?!

mysticm3
03-09-2007, 09:15 AM
at the moment you cannot use any H8 bulbs that is more powerful than 35w on E92 otherwise the OBC would go nuts. Our suppliers are doing some test and see if this can be solved.

Finally got round to upgrading my D1S bulbs from the stock 4300k to 8000k thanks to Teddy at SSDD-Motorsport (who supplied the bulbs and fitment) and to Mark (who supplied the garage and fitment). Thanks so much guys, they look awesome!!!

Thanks also to Tracey and Teddy who supplied the entertainment. Riding a mini motorbike around the yard. Teddy struggled to stay on!!! :D See the surprise at the end of this post...

Also, apologies to Peppernick :o as they were his bulbs originally but he swapped them with Teddy only to find that his Merc required D1S, so he wanted them back! Sorry ;)

First of all, this is what the stock D1S look like. Remember I have already changed my angels (see the start of this thread).

Its a bit fiddly changing bulbs on the E90. Access is behind the wheels where there is a small hatch. However, we find it easier to remove the plastic panelling.

Hey guys sorry to bringing an old thread up. Reason beingbis that I got a set of white 7000k leds from eBay. Installed them today, done the driver side and was impressed with the result. Then tackled the other side, was not good. The led in this side was alot duller compared to the drivers side. Plus there's a warning light on my dash regarding the lights. So is the bulb a dud!? Or have I wired it wrong ie the two prongs have I mixed up the cabling?
I will again go through all this 2 Moro swapping with otherside and sawpping the wiring. Just wanted to know if anyone had any idea as to why it's duller!!
It works light is coming thro it but just not as intense as the drivers side.

I have a E87 130i, do you still need to gain access to the lights though the wheel arch? or its possible to do it from the engine bay? i had a look at my friends E90 330i, looks to similar to me.

Thank you

hiya it all depends on whether you could access your current bulbs from the engine bay, some people could do without taking the bumper off as they got small hands but I havent personally tried them on the 1 series yet. Few members on the forum gor e87 1 series perhaps worth pming them about this? EBCglynn is very helpful guy.
