Shell Optimax, last 10 times longer than BP Ultimate Sainsbury's Super is not bad either.

So is the 6p per litre justified? btw teddy, had the ACS Fig 8 tip fitted today. WOW!

WOOWOO FUEL THREAD ALERT!!! :D
Personally I go with the highest octane rating I can get, it works for me. Optimax is good. Of the ordinary unleadeds, Esso seems to feel a little sharper than the others in my experience.

does optimax have a high octane level?

EZ Kam, did you get the tip from the tedster? Got any pics and how ez was it to fit? Still having to decide what to do with mine.
Also, Optimax is 98 ron I believe.

This is an age-old debate about what fuel is best. When I bought my car new, I always used optimax, for the first three months, then I was running low had to use some Murco stuff as I wasn't close to Shell. Any difference? None whatsoever. I looked into why, the car comes from the factory designed to run on 95Ron fuel, using Optimax for every day doesn't make a blind bit of difference. I know Ali will think differently because at Santa Pod he used Optimax and octane booster, but from personal experience, for every day use, 6p / litre extra isn't justified. (remember, it's only a 4-pot, we're not going to break any land speed records!)

Optimax is the best.... but soon it shall no longer grace our Fuel Pumps.
Shell are Axe'n it!......
But wait for it..... we are going to get "V-Power", like the rest of europe, 100RON, this stuff is sick, I used it loads in europe, and there is a serious about of difference in performance. Your car will never have felt faster.
Change should happen this summer.

I agree with Fas.
Everyday driving, with a 4pot, use standard fuel.
On the other hand with days like santa pod, shove in a tankful of optimax (and some octane booster :D ) and watch the added responsiveness. It's very noticeable. The car seems a lot more urgent and more willing to rev.

Defo agree with Fas - it didnt make a blind bif difference in my 4 pot - apart from the overall £6 extra it cost over regualr unleded
I reckon its all in the mind - unlesss your running a true supercar, which then im yet to be convinced it really does make *that* much difference

yeah man, can't wait for that to happen!!! you can have your car mapped to run better with higher octane fuel (most jap turbo car tuners do this!), my car with Kelleners ecu, is mapped for Vmax.. ie 100ron. Can certainly notice the difference between 95ron/98ron and optimax+octane booster.
Also sticking in one tank of optimax and expecting lighting performance, won't happen, on most newer cars today, it takes a couple of full tanks of higher ron petrol for the ecu to re-calibrate its knock settings etc for optimum burn in the cylinders.
good thing about optimax is the points card system [cool lol.
