How do i get over this anger? i really feel like killing some thing!!

the plate probs isnt woth much, but worth alot to me as it was a 15th Birthday prezzie from Mum & Dad, i had that plate on my moped, on the E39, E46 and was expecting it on the TT. But that silly fuvk does that!

What he said.

Have you filled out all the V5 stuff. As you will prolly have the old document you can still go and get the plate put on retention and have the old plate for the car put back on - just dont tell them that you sold it with it.

Why did you sign the V5 over to him prior to putting it on retention? Surely that was the point of no return?

solicitor wont make a button of difference - you should have filled a cherished transfer before you sold the car - if you've transferred it 3 times already you really should've known that....

I feel your pain mate, but I think it’s too late, the plate belongs to the car, and you should have transferred it off before you sold it.

They only way is if you have it in writing (like on the receipt) that the plate was not included in the sale, and both parties have signed this agreement.

Do you have anything that may help, web site for sale details, witnesses etc...

Well would you look at that. Someone who agreed to a deal and then backed out of it after you'd committed. What a pain....

Surely that was the point of no return?h4pry is right, I really can't understand why people sell their cars with their private plates still on if you STILL want the plate ?? , I hear this happening all the time...hope you can work something out with the owner.

Nothing you can do now. Solicitor can't do anything as there is nothing in writing and the plate actually belongs to the car not you or the new owner (until it is put on retention). So many peeps do this. They make a verbal agreement about a number plate and then find that the new owner doesn't go through with it.

I have said in so many other threads that you should just stick it on retention as soon as you decide you want to sell your car. The other thing otherwise is to put it on retention as soon as someone has agreed to buy the car. At least that way, they have seen the V5 agree to a sale and then they can just wait for the new V5 to come through.

The thing is, you have been talking about selling your car for quite a while, so I just don't know why you didn't just put it on retention.

I'm afriad you will find less and less people of this type in this world today, not just in the UK but every where .... which is sad really

I trusted this mother f****r thinking I would get it back. Unfortunately its just one of them things I have to live and learn from. Doing the transfer / retention is a pin in the ass now too.

If I speak to them on the telephone, I think I would just loose my temper because them people are such argumentative people. They have sent 2 mails bluntly stating that they are keeping it and pisstkig’ly stating “sorry” on each mail.

So looks like a new private plate is part of my shopping list now.

true enough. I just find it hard to comprehend that someone could give so little care about a plate the guy has had for so long, and which clearly means a lot to him, when sorting a new one is no bother. Would have to be a true cockass of he highest order... I despair.

Sorry to hear this man , unfortunatley like everyone has said , unless this guy acts like a man your fooked. Sorry bro , always back up any uncertanties in writing , its the only way , your own homosexual tendancies have got you into this mess.

Its shit when you can just about trust nobody these days. I came to the conclusion that 90% of people are like this and total wankooers. Thank god for the other 10%

Regards

This dont really make a difference either I am afraid, if you sell the car with the plate on it at the time of sale then its gone forever unless the new owner decides to sell it to you.

how about submitting a transfer form to DVLA dated before the sale date?:)

Sorry to hear about this bro

This is why i always say it best to get your plate on to retention and then sell the car. You should have put in the retention application when you put your car on pistonheads. By the time you put it on autotrader you would have had the V5 and the old plate back on.

I always make sure the my old plate is back on before i put the car up for sale. its covers your back and not go thru something like this

sounds like a lose- lose situation. try offering him £200 plus costs of transfer and see if he will accept

Even though the dvla may have received his new log book, they won't actually get to open it for a few days.

You need to get yourself to a dvla local office and speak to them. If they have no record (yet) of the sale then maybe you could apply for a new log book and do a retention at the same time?

Its a two week process, you hand in your old V5 & retention form which will have the serial number of the current tax disc on it to the local office and they then send it back to Swansea. Just done this myself yesterday. The plate's gone, nothing to be done.

They probably think it's worth more than it is. If your gonna have to buy a new plate might be trying to buy it back of them? Then lay the Tw*t out :D

Not quite the same, but might work?

I know this sounds stupid, but trust me, it might work. get your father to call him and ask him why he wont return your birthday present he gave you to you. It is easy to tell a 19 year old to piss off, but much harder to say it to a grown man defending his son.

Dont give up, use guilt trips, anything you like, offer to buy him another plate with his initials if need be and write it off as a learning experience. As you say the plate is of no use to him.

That is a very good idea, as others have said, it is meaningless to him but means an awful lot to you. Get your dad to make that call - hope you get it back mate.
