cant wait to see the pics. mine will be going on next weds, and I'm having minor second thoughs. at the mo there is a nice even small'ish gap all around the arch, between it and wheel, so not sure if a little drop will unbalance the look tbh.
what size wheels did you go for?

i have a set of 19 m3evo reps 8" front x 8 1/2" rear arriving hopefully next week, the pro kit is the way to go if you are looking to make a subtle drop,i am just back from a blast around the country roads in my area and the car handles better very little if any body roll but no difference on comfort compared to stock springs

exactly what i wanted to hear.
I had 19" m3evo reps a while back (still in my sig pic), then went to 19" M6 reps (didnt look right to me), and am now on 18" CSL reps (downsized for acceleration/handling purposes). I kinda miss the m3 evo's...

i know what you mean its hard to pick a set of wheels, i had my heart set on a set of m3 Evos then i seen a csl and wanted a set of them but i could not get the velocity replicas so i wasn,t sure what to get, then a freind who has an m3 let me try one of his front ones on my car and i decided to buy the m3 Evos

I have scraped it a couple of times but its been touched up, what looks like a scratch on the splitter is just a reflection :D

Here are some comparison shots. The first is the front offside wheel on my previous 330i sport in a before and after shot so you can see how much the drop is, the second shot is my 330 before it had the drop and the third is a 330i with the pro kit. I added the arrows a while back when deciding what kit to go for so I could see how far it would drop.

how do you mean?
the 19" M6 reps i had weighed a TON. while swapping, i held both the 18" and 19" and it was night and day. I know its a manufacturer thing and not all 19's weigh as much as a tank, but i cant find light 19's in my price range that fit the bill.
handling seemed very compromised on the 19's, and the car just felt sluggish. the difference going back to 18" (admitadly with better tyres) is immense.

There's a quid-pro-quo regarding lighter rims against bigger sidewalls, but some prefer the feel and weight certainly does become an issue with lesser wheels. It was more the comment that you think it improves acceleration that I found a little odd, or did you mean that it just feels quicker?
Just to confuse you further, the OEM 19s that you say you miss are only about half a pound heavier than the OEM 18s, so they're probably lighter than your velocity reps. :D

ah, the 19" M3 evo wheels i had were also reps. and also weighed a mutha'load. I sold them, and when posting them out weighed them. 35 lbs
I beleive the wheels i have now arent more than 26-27 (quoted). they are very good for reps.
The car is definately happier on 18's. I'm sure its a bit snappier in the acceleration department, and the cornering feels a hell of a lot better.
besides, who am i to argue with years of BMW reseach and development. I shouldnt have deviated from the rim size the car was designed to run on really.
I also wanted more comfort and reduced road noise, but didnt get that... are michelin PS2's usually loud??

P.S I never for a moment meant the acceleration is loads better on 18's, most maybe wouldnt even realise! I just want to eek every bit of performance out of the thing that my budget will allow. I'm going more for drivability mods than visual ones at the mo.

Mystic, is the black car not fitted with the sportline kit rather than the pro?
I've still got a set of pro kit springs for my 330 that I bought off another member probably about 6 months ago! I really should get round to fitting them.

Well, if you run the same rolling radius, which you should be, then acceleration is no different, not a jot. It's probably placebo effect, especially as you can bet that if there was a difference running smaller rims then everyone and their mother would be rolling on 12s. ;)
The major difference between 18s and 19s is that the bigger wheel has better cornering dynamics but a less forgiving ride. Your reps aren't far off the OEM weights, so they're pretty good actually. :) PS2s are fairly noisy, yep, you won't get many tyres that are louder in fact, but you also won't get many tyres that will get close to their performance either, so you made a good choice given your criteria. ;)

it was more the fact that my 19's were particularly heavy for 19's, or so it seemed to me, and at that size my tyre choice was effected.
with my budget, i could have had A) heavy 19's + not great tyres, or B) better quality lighter 18's and much better tyres. the latter option has given me (possibly psychological, but i'm sure its at least a bit) better pokiness, and deffinately much improved cornering.
so the reasons for going down to 18's factored in the reality of what you can get for your money compared to 19's, and in this case, better performance. I'f i could have got these exact brand/style rims, with the exact same tyres in 19's for the same price, i would :(.. but the diff was nearly £400, and i'd rather use that for a short shifter and remap (not expecting insane gains but still).
wish i'd asked about the PS2's before hand! they do grip great though, and the noise is ok. I just guess this chart is a bit misleading? :
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=MP
which out of that lot do you know to be particularly quiet? if any.
I sometimes sell a few things, and get a bit of extra cash which is my 'modding fund'. I might just chuck some of the regular earnings in the pot and get the 'perfect' setup, as soon as i know what that is exactly!

Ill be after the pro kit too soon, but im sooooooo tempted to drop it on the COUPE sportlines as it does make a BIG difference in looks :D

Ahhh the perfect setup Lumus, when you find it let us all know what it is, some of us have been looking for years...!! :D
That chart is way off whack, unless it's upside down and higher scores in Noise Comfort actually means higher scores in Noise. Very odd though, they're noticeably louder than the older Pilot Sport compound, and that chart seems to indicate the opposite. Put up with it though, all of the better tyres are a bit noisier, but it's worth it. :)
