Hi im after a bit of advice..i have seen a car i am interested in thats going for a very good price..it was stolen recovered but the buyer said it is hpi clear and he originally bought it from auction to sell on..
the car is worth prob 11k normally but im getting it for 7k ish..
he said he has only got the new keeper supplement as documenattion and nothing else but the receipt from the auction place..
Would the new keeper supplement have the vin of the car on it and is that enough to buy the car with?
what is the best way to make sure it is not cloned apart from the obvious hpi check which may not reveal anything if it is indeed cloned?
thanks

Be very very very careful. That smells of a rat so much that any second it's likely to squeak and run under the floorboards...
If he wants to sell it, he can contact DVLA and prove to them it's legit enough for them to issue a V5. Then you can buy it safely. If he can't or doesn't want to, it's stolen so walk away. Frankly, at 30% off, the latter is the most likely by a mile anyway. Your call, but I can think of better ways to piss 7k up a wall...

Just think about how much trouble you will have when you come to sell, i am with chaos on this one if you are doubting the purchase i think you have answered you own question, good luck.

to be honest it does smell fishy,
but if u seriously want to buy it then make sure it all checks out as often its not,
get the registration,
the VIN plate (its on the windscreen and in the engine compartment
get the tax disc number
get the MOT serial number.
the tax and mot u can run a check with direct with the DLVA and VOSA who run all MOTs. the reason for MOT and tax check is simple. ask the guy about the previous owner and where they live becos checkn the tax and mot will tell you wen it was last taxed and mot'd and WHERE.. the key point. most ppl will get it all done no more then a couple of miles from them unless they want to be difficult (very unlikely) so you can establish roughly where it came from.
now the important bit, the registration and accident details. its worth while to pay the £35 odd to get a full check on it. HPI do a good service and will let you know anything about this car that has been recorded from accident to hpi staus, from color change and if even the car exist under the reg and VIN numbers.
ultimalty it is ur call but be carefuly as most of the times these ppl can not be trusted and should have the full log book at hand before they can sell the car on else you will be 7k out of pocket and with a car thats going to be hard to sell and possibly stolen.....
think wise and let us know what you decide to do.
