After reading all the threads about people getting stopped for tints recently i was wondering how strict they are in the UK. I just got stopped by a police bike who is the only one with a light meter in my town apparently. In a way he's done me a favour as i didn't know how dark my front tints were and now i do. Aparently in the UK your only allowed 70% and it turns out mine were 46%. Luckily the policeman had an agreement with the guy who did my window's that he can go down to 50% so he let me off. I was told that the deciding factor on whether someone gets done when its borderline is the attitude of the driver.
So if you get stopped in the UK just don't get out and kick off and you should be ok. Glad i didn't go darker now as i was about to get the fronts re-done!

I agree, just use the word 'sir' and 'sorry' in between every now and then, give them a sense of 'superiority' and they can be OK.

Deep down you can swear as much as you like, after all you know they are worth jack shit to you once you get out of it.

I tried to be technical with them the last time I was pulled over for my straight thru exhaust and that didn't help. So the next time I get pulled over, I'll try my other trick.....

'ahhhhh sooooo........I no speak Englieeeeesh, ehhhhhh? arrrrhhhh??

I guess I could get away with it.....maybe :p

hahahah u nutta.. yep that should work, but depending on the "crime" they may chase it up.

funny enough, never been stopped in the m5, but the subaru p1 was the worst, got stopped 6 times in space of a month, so annoying... 3 times the same reason, "just had one of these reported stolen"..

Was that not me? That was the same speed my dad and I got stopped on the A9 in a rentacar (109mph). 20-30min of sergent bloke (with a tash) shouting at us "SHOW ME YOUR PASSPORT, P-AAA-SSSS-PP-OOOO-RRR-TTTT YES YOU JIMMY" in a Scottish accent. We got away in the end and the guy gave us a highway code, in English of course. If you get stopped, just say crap like 'You English gentleman?' 'Karate you like?' 'My unlce is Bruce Lee'... The same applies in Japan. Jap cops just don't want to deal with foreigners :D

The guy who fitted my tints told me that he was only willing to do the fronts to a 50% as anything darker and you are asking for trouble. He said that an inspector actually told him that 50% was acceptable.

@Nick, that would be hilarious to see. I don't think I would have the balls to try the indian accent and no speak english as I think they would suss me out and throw the book at me for taking the p*ss :(

i've been ok so far....I guess our tints arnt that dark compared to others as you can see all the way through.
I guess us mature drivers are less likely to get pulled, rather than the music blaring, baseball cap wearing (no offence) :D

i had a little moment the other day while driving the CSL (latvian car remember:) ) id given it a touch too much right foot on a round about and next thing i know Mr Plod was behind me.....my plan was, im in a left hand drive latvian registered and number plated car plus being of italian persuasion i had my 'way 'out' on a plate! i was just gonna look at the guy and smile with a blank expression on my face! fortunately he only followed me for a short while then wandered off but id have definately enjoyed it :D

I was told by the guy who did mine, any tinting film on the front side windows
was illegal !!!!! so i went for the lightest tint on the front as i could then medium on the side back and dark on the rear, so far so good.

Anything forward of the B pillar is illegal, But Ive had tints all round on my last 3 cars and never had any problems, (Had to pay cash in hand to have them done though) I think as long as there not limo black and you dont drive like a Tw*t youll be ok. Not many officers have the light meters anyway. Just have watch out when they do the road side checks with the Vehicle inspector blokeys as there jobs worths. I hate not havin tints on the front.

Seems ages since i started this thread and then realised how long ago it was! Bit of a coincidence tho as i get the M3 tinted yesterday 30% on the sides and 20% on rear screen. Pics to follow in about a month when i'm happy with the way the car looks.

They can now seize your car rather than a fine. Something worth bearing in mind. Still not taking mine off, till the tow truck comes that is. :p
