I snapped one of the outer rings on my Mcguards lockers today. I have the remains of the locking key but one of the wheel nuts is still stuck in place, the other three I removed with what looks like a wheel nut socket but it has a left handed thread in it. The small outer edge of the wheel nut has broken away - and although there is still the main head of the nut still exposed - about 1.9cm worth.

Any ideas on what to do next.

Thanks

We normally get a slightly smaller sized socket and "force" it over locking wheel nut ,brutal but generally works ;)

PM sent.

Mark, i know it's not rocket science but it may not be a good idea to advertise the method.

My problem is the the mcguards lockers are all round so no socket will fit

Is there any kind of serial number on the locking key? I have heard that you can contact Mcguards and they can source a replacement but need some kind of serial number. Sorry I am a bit vague but maybe someone could shed some more light on this.

It is the nut that crakced and took the tooth of the key with it.

Thanks

Take it to the dealer or any good garage and ask them to drill it out.

Can they be drilled out? I thought they were hardend steel.

get it drilled out as a replacement key will be of no use to you.

This happened to me twice! Both times the brake calipers and discs had to come off and the garage had to heat the nut, and the twist it out. Took about 15 mins. Not a massive job, just hassle! Hope you get yours sorted.

You can buy from halfords - locking nut removal tools.

oh, you can also order a replacement key, there is a serial number, but you are obviously better off buying a new set.

I have a brand new set of 27179 (fits bmw) SL (ultra) ones if you are interested.

mcguards are one of the hardest locking wheel nuts to remve on the market today, dont get it heated mate cos it will shag ur wheel up. Also be very carefull with a drill ive drilled a couple of locking wheel nuts off and its not easy and takes time and a lot of drill bits!!!

are you doing it yourself or getting a garage to do it?
