So I finally got my grubby mitts on a full s/hand LED retrofit kit for my 2002 330i 'vert off fleabay. Fitted everything last wk end and got the usual rear bulbs out warning lights on the dash.

Took it into local stealer today to get the LCM reflashed...the parts depts guy said I didn't need a new LCM and to allow 30mins for reflash. Great I thought sitting waiting in the service dept. The technician came through and said there's a problem with the rear foglight coming on when the lights were switched on.

Turns out the car has an LCM for a 320i compact! WTF!

I've had the car for 3.5 years and never had a problem with light before. Bought it s/hand from an approved BMW dealer. I'm hoping BMW GB can shed some light on why my 330i 'vert has the LCM off a 320i compact.

What are the chances they will replace the LCM with the correct part for my car and get it reflashed?

Fingers x'ed.

I think that is bollox, I may be wrong but . . . . .

I had the same problem with mine - fog light on when breaking, it is coz the reflash has gone peat tong. They had to reflash the entire light system on my car to get rid of it. Then it was fine.

They are talking crap , the lcm used in the 330ci is the exact same one used in the compact .

Thanks for your support guys. :)

I checked the LCM p/no and listing shows compact only. However I'll see if they can reflash the entire system FOC. Robin tried to get the LCM on his 2003 LCM reflashed at the same dealer...they said it was faulty and he ended up paying for a new LCM to be fitted and reflashed. Does anyone have a copy of the workshop instructions ofr LCM reflash? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a dealer in Glasgow or Edinburgh for this?

Thanks in advance

Whats the part number? As stakesuk says I doubt there is a specific one for the compact. I've never heard of specific LCMs being for certain engine sizes only either.

Just got home from a trip to Glasgow...the rear foglight seems to have started behaving now and only switches on when I use the switch. Rear bulbs out warning still on.

Here's the p/no: 6 919 834
H/W: 15
S/W: 3.01

My chassis no is EH87056...

I've found the workshop instruction here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...05&postcount=6

How strange - you're right it comes up for a 320td/325ti on the ETK. I shouldn't worry though if it's working - BMW often seem to raid the parts bin and put the 'wrong' stuff on different cars. It would be nice to know what the difference in that LCM is though!

Regarding the LCM - That is very strange. I cant see how that had managed to get on the car. The only thing that springs to mind is a incorrect sticker on the LCM - though I very much doubt it.

Another option is that the previous owner may have replaced the lcm - check with bmw if this was done under warranty?

On cars made after 9/2001 are usually re-flashable only if :

the HW 2.0 (or above) SW 3.16 (or above)

Anything below and a new LCM is requried for LED's.

Tried BMW GB and called all the dealers in the service book. None have a record of the LCM being replaced and BMW GB aren't interested in helping me.

I've decided to chough up for new LCM...getting fitted next Friday.
