guys, does anyone know how to get an ipod to work with standard business head unit?
All I know is that it's possible to use the CD Changer interface to hook into the pod, this will obviously render the CD changer useless, but I don't care about that.
Anyone know which cables I need? As I'm going for a custom boot install, I thought it'd be a nice touch to make a feature of the ipod too, get it custom mounted yet easily removable etc, have it lit up and all that good stuff.
I'm keeping the stock head unit so please, don't say, change to another head unit :)
Any ideas anyone? Or links to anyone that's done this?
You want to get yourself this from here (http://www.ihavetohave.it/acatalog/ICE-Link_BMW.html):

And this from here (http://www.neatcom.co.uk/index.asp?id=3&pid=386&product=8) to mount it on:

Thanks Danny.
I wanted to do something different with the mount, either how durgesh has done it in his centre console tray or in the boot and control via the steering wheel. That dension icelink looks perfect for the linkage though

Yes the dension icelink is the best way to go, that is if you don't mind losing the CD changer.
The best thing is to mount in the Euro Tray, behind the gear shift, under the armrest.
What you do is buy a spare ipod docking cradle, you plug the dension icelink into this, and over the tray with black leather/material. just leaving cut out for the Ipod to drop in and out, and so you can see the scree.n. IMO, this is the best looking way to do it. When you get in the car all you have to do is drop you ipod in the slot and you are ready to go, no plugs or wires anywhere.

Kenwood make toasters
Dude.. don't even get me started on Ipod's..... or Ed....
iRivers and Karma's.. far superior
And the new Excelon version
depends on i guess if you ur one of these guys thats worried about size. Just been thinking that a mini in silver would look alot better than WHITE... I totaly agree that an iPod install has an X factor for the cabin.
Faz, just found this setup.. might try it with my ipod...

Hi Tin, I've seen that site. It's currently US only, apparently there's some software conflict between the ipod, cabling and s/w on the car which is being worked out. It's allegedly being released here next month, I'm keeping a close eye on it.
If I can hook it all up so that I can control the pod with the steering wheel, I'll make a custom mount in the bootlid for it, make a nice little feature I reckon. Actually, having said that, it'd probably get nicked first time I show it at a show!
