Need help with some tyre choices people. My car has only done 20k miles and it needs its third set of tyres now so not the usual scenario :( It came with continental sport contact 2's and I replaced them with some more of these and needless to say, they're dogsh*t. What would you guys recommend? The fronts are 225/45/wr17 and the backs 245/40/wr17. As you can probably guess with the need for new tyres, the majority of my miles is on the twisties to and from work so grip is essential for erm... spirited driving!

Im usually a bridgestone SO3 man myself very good tyre for lateral grip and last quite well too. got 20k out of a set on a 911. My M3 came with Michellin Pilot Sports on it and they have really impressed me with the amount of grip they generate being michelin they will last too.

If you want longlife then go for a hard compound a soft compound will give huge levels of grip but will be useless in the wet and wear out quickly.

The michelin are a hard compound and the bridgestone a medium hard compound and personally id recommend either but its personal choice really.

Avon are good too but they need to be warm to perform well

lol sorry, I know tyres are a commonly posted subject but I didn't know if many people were in the same scenario as me going through them so quick with the same type of driving as not many people drive mainly B roads

also... what size tyres could I put on in replacement? ie. widths and profiles. The wheels are 7.5 and 8.5J

Someone posted up a handy rolling radius guide not long back, may have been Neil I think, but there are a few around that you may get on Google which show you what tyre widths you can run and what profiles you'll need to keep the RR the same. For mainly B road driving I'd be tempted to not go too large on the width, as that will necessitate a thinner sidewall and the thinner the sidewall the less give you have in the tyre on bumpy roads.

to be fair you can probably increase your fronts a bit but the back is really about as big as you want to go without paying silly money for tyres. you will get a 255 or 265 on the back on an 8.5J rim but in a 17" they will be really expensive as its not a commonly used size!

A really good tyre but a soft compound so wont give much mileage
