This weekend I fitted the Basslink - it all went well, seats out, controller cable down, fed through gromet behind rear drivers seat bolster - sorted.
Spliced into rear speakers, soon realised an e46 is not like an e36 where speakers can be unbolted and cables exposed. Ended up unbolting speakers from the shelf and splicing into the cables there...
Right - question number 1 - the colour coding on the speakers are not intuitive in suggesting whats + and - and so i MAY have got the polarity incorrect. Could some tell me what is what with these colours?
OK - so cables spliced, i plug the connecters in, power it up and i get bass - cool. Operation put the car back together
OK - so, fitting has to be completed, but i thought id go ahead and tune the thing.
Followed the book and instant reactions was - humm, this is rubbish! [bang
I fiddled with the crossover/gain/ etc etc - but nothing helped. I had to turn the volume up pretty high to get any real action out of the box - as if the thing wudnt work unless a decent amount of power was going in..
I left it at that and decided id post on here for help
Anyhow - during the drive back from derbyshire to london, i fiddled with the fader/balance on the headunit (i only have the standard headunit)
WOW - i moved the balance 1 notch to the LEFT (usually dead middle) and it was like sumone had kicked the basslink into action - BOOM! Sounded LOADS better. But i thought- this cant be right. One more notch to the left and it sounded better - the more i went the better it got but eventually was too much
If i move the balance 1 notch to the right, its almost as if the basslink is switched off. Moving it more and more to the right, its become quieter and quieter
The standard speakers work fine and always have done
So - what have i done wrong? Is it maybe due to polarity? Did i my fluke get it right on the RIGHT hand side, but wrong on the LEFT?
Could the basslink be duff?
Help/advise appriciated !
Thanks!!
Jamie
