yo guys, I've got the SSDD Cai fitted to my M3, but may fancy a change? Anyone got any other suggestions for one. Losing the "rasp" sound from the exhuast a little with this Cai, so any other choices they will allow the rasp to come through more/

cheers

K&N Typhoon. The 'blare' you get from the induction is something else!

I use the K&N GenII kit which drowns out the rasp untill high revs. The only way to get over the rasp is the change the exhaust im afraid.

Hes wants to keep the rasp by the sounds of it.

Put the stock airbox back on if you want the rasp to come through more.

my fault didnt read the original post properly!

try using a K&N or Green panel replacement filter that wont have as much effect on the exhaust note

if you want more rasp get the x-pipe Nick used to have it on his car

the problem with the other suggested intakes is poor heat shielding. Maybe take a look at the AFE intake, as it has good thermal insulation.

We have one in stock just removed from customers car after only 500 miles use as we are now supercharging the car ! retail cost is £540, yours for £350 if you wanted it. It is in immaculate condition.

install details here http://www.afefilters.com/is/54-10461.pdf

The suggestion to use the supersprint X pipe is a good one too, got this on our M3 and it certainly did accentuate the rasp.

best of luck

The AFE intake is very good, much better heat shielding. However, the K&N is the loudest! Depends on what you're after really.

Yep, X-Pipe and stock exhaust = all the rasp you could wish for ;)

excuse but i think i have the loudest intake:D :D :D :D

ok only jk!!!!!

i used to have the k&n but was not very thrilled....

when the exaust came....all the sound from the intake was gone.....

and honestly only the sound was worth it.....

as for the rasp could not agree more with the gents!!!!!!!

all the best!

yeh sorry madmatt m3, looking for the rasp to comr through more. I know some people don't like the original rasp from the M3 exhaust, but I really like it and its always something I associated with the M3.

Had a genuine GruppeM Cai on my 330 sport and I liked it on that as it gave it a nice growl. However, the characteristics of a similar Cai on the M3 works in a different way? Does give it better low end/rev grunt, but seems to have a bit of lag and doesn't have the light feel when you put your foot down and rasp cuts in (hard to explain, unless you driving)

Dont really want to change the exhaust, so do you guys think the best suggestion is just to put the original airbox back on?

cheers

What is the X Pipe, where does it go and what does it replace?

Steve, you lose that characteristic induction snort you get on a 330 because the M3 has 6 throttle buterflies instead of one, the airflow dynamics is different.

The S54 is very sensitive to correct air/fuel ratio. It's optimized from the factory using the standard airbox. Ideally you would want a remap with a CAI to optimize the AFR again. From my experience, I do find the M3 runs best with the stock airbox on a standard map.

It replaces the centre resonator with a straight through pipe. No performance gains, just alteration to acoustic.

Nick, totally agree with you, even though I haven't had the M for long, I remember you mentioning the differences in the 330 characteristics and the M.
"Sticking on" a Cai on an M3 doesn't seem to have the same desired effect as say the 330. Certainly "enhances" the grunt on the 330, but you seem to "lose" some of the characteristics on the M. Thorttle seems more "light" and "willing" with the standard airbox and a bit tired/struggling/lagging when just bolting on the Cai?
Any other options and comments?
thanks:)

must admit that since having the exhaust done i cant hear the induction grunt and initial take off is something similar to turbo lag (unless in sports mode) looks like i need a remap!!

personally i dont like the rasp and couldnt wait to get rid of it but its each to their own really isnt it :D

yeh I know a lot of people dont like the rasp:) its funny on the 330, I prefered the grunt to come from the engine and the cai definitely enhanced this, I even took off an eisenman exhuast as it was drowning out the engine grunt.
On the M3, it seems I prefer the rasp from the standard exhaust:) its just something I've always thought of when thinking of the M

so have you decided which one you are going for then? THe X-pipe sounds the best option to accentuate the rasp :)
