Been a couple of months figuring out what I wanted to do with the car this year. And decided that I've actually got the car 100% how i like it, internally, externally, ICE, chassis, etc. But I still wanted to mod. It's always dangerous to mod for the sake of modding and it's something I've always wanted to avoid, so I decided to tweak bits and actually personalise the car to ME.

So I came up with a theme called "Fas Edition". These are mods which will either be unique, or have a unique twist which will only ever be found on my car.

A few months ago, Huzi mentioned a company called "Storm Motorwerks", they offer billet aluminium handbrake / gear knobs. i filed the e-mail away under one of my folders which I then revisited. After a few e-mails with Bilal, I put an order in and i received the following.

So, unveiling the "Fas Edition" concept

Billet aluminium Handbrake and Gear Knob "Fas Edition"

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j137/BigFas/DSC_4273Medium.jpg

These aren't the chepest but I've had stock, AC Schnitzer, BMW M and now these and these are by far and away the best.

The gearknob weighs in at a whopping 508grams, yes, over half a kilo!!!!!!! the handbrake isn't too far behind either. I've not fitted, but they literally ooze quality. the depth of shine is ridiculous.

this is literally the one mod that makes me wish I had more cars to buy these for.

I'm in talks with Bilal to bring a group buy to the forum and I can only wholeheartedly recommend them.

Watch the forum for group buy details.

To continue the Fas Edition theme, there'll be a very simple tweak to the boot install and also Ffion is currently working on Fas Edition interior retrim :)

Hope you like

Those Hand brake & gear knobs Storm do are excellent! Been on E36coupe selling those for quite some time.

Glad Bilal got the laser etching sorted out in the end.... now people can have engravings like yourself. Not really one-offs but still uber quality products 8)

I reckon it'll look better if you machine the Storm Motorwerks logo off, shouldn't be too hard to do.

maybe kick plates, alloys, could even have a special "fas edition" badge for the rear, and a plaque for the dash some where, would be good with the BMW motorsport checkered flag.

Hi Guys

Just thought i'd introduce myself and answer some questions which are bound to come up. Firstly, I'm Bilal :D and i run Storm Motorwerks. We design and develop bespoke accessories for BMW's. To give you an idea of our quality - we have recently been commissioned by a supercar-club to develop bespoke gearknobs for their fleet Ferrari's and Porsche's.

The products are machined from stainless steel billet which is what gives them the weight. Furthermore, the gearknob sits about an inch lower than stock which reduces some of the throw and makes the overall gearchange that much more positive. The weight was very carefully "tuned" in to get the optimum effect of removing the inheresnt BMW gearchange notchiness - you'll benefit from this even more if you have a SSK.

The handbrake is also machined from stainless steel and isnt as weighty as the gearknob - but it actually makes the handbrake mechanism feel more solid! As you'll come to learn about my style of design - i dont do things by half - so the handbrake comes with a machined stainless steel button - a worldwide first for the E46! :D

Heres what the lever and button look like in an e46:

http://www.storm-motorwerks.com/bilals_images/WHB.jpg

The etch you can see of "FAS EDITION" is an acid etch. I am working on engraving so that we can machine logo's patterns etc into the products also. When this is ready i'll be setting up a group buy for you guys with the help of Fas.

Finally - all our products are machined right here in the UK!

Welcome to the forum bro :) My mistake on saying aluminium. I'll take pics of the handbrake button cap tomorrow, that is just as a a quality item too.

Dont be so sure! ;) By removing the notchiness and reducing the throw - the gearknob actually allows for quicker, more positive changes!!

Indeed we do - WITH the machined button ;)

Same goes for the E30, E34, E39 and Z3

19-03-2007, 01:36 PM
And how much would a Z4 gearknob cost?

Actually wait a minute - can you do they in aluminium? - I am trying to cut weight not add it!!!

Bilal@Storm
19-03-2007, 01:48 PM
The Z4 is a prime candidate for one of these in stainless as they have a factory short shift. One of my recent customers bought one for his Z4 M and couldnt stop smiling after it made his gearchange feel they way it should have from factory!

I know they sound weighty but believe me, it makes all the difference. Its one of those things you just gotta try to appreciate!

I have some pieces under development mate - you'd be surprised how many porsche owners have apporached us to help improve their gearchange! Especially the 996 Turbo and GT3.

I sat in a Ferrari 355 a couple of weeks back and was horrified at their gearknob - the shift pattern enrgaving looked like someone did it with a chisel in a garage somewhere! Needless to say, i'm working on something for that too! Imagine that, British design being implemented to imporve on Italian design!!
