I have had my M3 since November and it has had over 2 and a half bottles of the 1 litre BMW 10/60. One of the guys said that they drink oil but my pals 04 only ever had extra oil at its annual service. I have put 4000 miles on the card in the last 5 months.

What are yours like for drinking oil

Hmm sounds very suspect to me mate, id suggest selling the car to me before it goes proper wonky :D

Kidding aside though, a friend of mine has an E39 M5 like that with 30k on the clock, it just seems to use alot of oil for no real reason

Yeah! my 330 has done just over 77000 and it uses no oil at all, my mates 330 has done less than 28000 and he's forever topping it up. Guess there all different. Think they tighten up with use.

I think it depends on how hard you rev the engine from experience. Mine used about 1litre of oil every 3 months...about 3k miles...but not necessary the mileage. Even if I do less; I still have to put oil in as I tend to rev it to 7k rpm quite often:)

Ah,

Mine does have regular interaction with the red line so that could be it, the sales guy did tell me to watch the oil if I was going to drive it hard.

It is in for its small service on Tuesday, just an oil change - lol that makes me laugh change what the new oil I just tipped in it.

I know its probably foolish but I never check my oil,I just think the light will come on if its low

It does get serviced regular well within the mileage indicator though

even with hard use, our bannana does not use much oil at all.

In 3 years of ownership, I never had to top up my engine oil at all, even after track sessions. However, I use thicker Mobil Motorsport 15W-50 oil.

Might be worthwhile checking. Another thread on this from another forum:)

With e39 M5s it is normal to use oil. Mine drinks it like anything. However there are some that use no oil or hardly any at all, these are pre and post ring design change.

I heard E46 M3s sometimes use oil but it is not as common. I guess it is like the M5s that done use oil. There are few but it is not as uncommon as you think.

Have never had to top mine up, was getting a bit low just before its Inspection II recently (the orange oil light came on intermittently for a couple of weeks) but was still above the lower marker. I do drive mine hard sometimes as well.
