Storing winter wheels and tyres

Has any1 got any tips or anything on best way to store wheels and tyres over summer, as my new rims are going on in nxt week or so i will be storing my 18" till the dreaded gritter comes out, i read in a previous thread that the rubber can go off? Or will they be just fine?
