Can OEM xenons be fitted to a non xenon car? I did it to my GOLF provided i had the ballasts etc! If the xenon headlights themselves dont have the ballasts/ control units? could a retrofit kit be used with the xenon projector headlights.

yes it can be fitted but u need to get your ecu flashed by your dealer. failing that, there are plenty of cheap aftermarket HID conversion kits available. I'm sure Roy can help u with this.

yeh fellas i know about these, however i really like the look of the OEM xenons. there is often xenon headlamp units on ebay without control units/ ballasts etc. So i was thinking, just buy the headlamps (without control unit/ ballast) then attach the kit you kind fellas have suggested! (the car im hoping to get already has this kit). what do you reckon?

Can do if you manage to find just the projector headlamps.
Alternatively, you can try THIS (http://www.umnitza.com/index.php?cPath=26_90) but they are not cheap and you need to worry about importing. However, they are complete xenon kits with projector lamps as well as angel eyes.

I'd be wary of the Umnitza's - I know some of the M5 guys in US and one guy here in UK had issues with them - and I believe their backup/support was not quite up to scratch either..

i was looking at some xenons from a local scrappy. He said it comes with the ballasts etc. However he said i would need a new interior light switch! How much is this switch (he told me £30 from stealers) and how easy is it to fit?

i got it from umnitza, although the product quality is ok.
their after sales and support so far is very good.
as first had a faulty bulb, then a faulty ballast and now a faulty ring.
but they replaced it all free of charge except the for the ring which i had to pay for postage, but he's sending 3 instead of 1.

[bang what? £150 for a switch. Is it a straight forward swap over?

It is what's called a light control module. It handles and governs more than just a switch. You will also need to get it coded which will be another £30

You do not need a new LCM or (light switch) I upgraded to oem xenons from Halogen units and all I had to get was the lcm updated by the dealer and they work fine.Originally I could adjust the xenon slightly with the headlight adjuster wheel but when I upgraded to Led's also I had to get a new lcm and lost the adjustment fuction but don't really care. I f you can get a crashed car with damaged headlights which are xenon you mighty get them cheaper and swop over the internal working parts to your own Halogen units and migt be able to save a few quid

sweet, so i dont need a lcm switch? I can just plug in the OEM xenons, get it 'flashed' by the dealer and it should work? right?
