I am looking at a car for sale, but theres no service book with it.

HPI check is clear and no mileage discrepancies.

I have the name of the BMW dealership where it was bought from so if I ring them tomorrow do you know if they would issue another service book and stamp it up based on what they have done on it?

If not do I have anymore options?

It only has 21k miles on it so should only have had 1st oil change.
Thanks

there was a recent thread about this so do a search, but from my experience with VW they wree able to reissue a replacement so I can't see why not. obviously you'd have to pay tho

Thanks.

Initially when I went to search it kept coming back with an error message, and wouldnt let me search. I left it for minutes and tried again and still wouldnt work.

Have found the thread now tho as its now working for me

You can get a new service book from bmw (£15 - i think) and they will stamp it for you.

However it will have the words "duplicate" written across every page.

Why doesnt the car had a SH book? It possible that car could be clocked.

I'm getting it from an auction house and they said it has no service book.

I rang BMW Customer services today, and initially they said theres no trace of the car having had any service.

Then I rang the dealer it was bought from and they said it had in fact been serviced and it all seemed to add up.

Wear n tear seems to be in line as well so fingers crossed

Newer BMW's have four memories, don't they??

Maybe verify the mileage on all of these...? somehow

Without sounding completely silly what exactly do you mean by four memories?

I think Sid is referring to the previous 4 service history embedded somewhere in the car ecu

IIRC - Millage is stored in 3 different places depending on your model and year off your car.

If the car has a later diamond shaped key, millage is stored on the speedo, Lcm and the key itself.

Most millage correction / kph-mph conversion companies can easily read the millage off them to verify. However, any inconsistancies will put a tamper dot on the dash.

So if anyone here was buying a car and the service book had DUPLICATE written on it would you still buy the car?

Also, how would I be able to check the mileage on the LCM and key? Can I do this myself or can it only be done at a dealers? Also where can I find the tamper dot?

SO many questions but Just want to make sure before I go ahead with the purchase

Many Thanks

yes as the buyer could always check with BMW direct.

I would probably check with the dealer that the history was ok, but then would definitely not be put off by a duplicate book.

You don't need to check the mileage anywhere, if there are discrepancies the tamper dot will appear on the dashboard next to the mileage.
