I have a set of 18x8.5" Ac Schnitzer Type III Racing alloys which I'm going to fit to my E36 Coupe

I still need to get a set of tyres for them though, and I'm not sure on what size the tyres need to be

It will be 215/?/18's I'm assuming? I'm unsure on which profile to go for for the best as well

Also, which brands would people recommend? I want something that's going to be decent and capable without breaking the bank toooo much

Cheers, Mike

I have a set of 18x8.5 that currently have 225/40/18 tyres all round. I'm about to pick up two new tyres for the rear that will be 235/40/18.

As for brands, I stick to the top ones. I had four Pirelli P Zeros and I rate them very highly! The two new ones are Goodyear Eagle F1s. They cannot be beaten!!

If there really is a budget, then here are some very good tyres for the money, and won't disappoint in the wet:

Kuhmo KU19/KU31
Toyo Proxes
Dunlop SP 9000/9090

I wouldn't consider anything else.

Good luck!

My 1st thoughts were with Pirelli because it's what BMW seems to recommend

also I have Goodyear F1 Eagles on my Cosworth

I can get a sizeable discount on Kumho's, but have heard mixed reports about them

How much am I looking at roughly for a set of the Pirellis? As I would say they will be my 1st choice

thanks :)

I paid about £100 per tyre for my new Pirellis. If you can go for the top brands, then do so. Personally I'd pick Goodyear over Pirelli but from now I'm sticking to Goodyear for the back and Pirelli for the front. I'm pretty sure it makes a difference in steering by choosing non-directional over directional!

cheers. I was budgeting for more than that anyway, so that's good!

thanks :)

how does this sound.....

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 225/40/18

£371.60 inc delivery from mytyres.co.uk

?

Are 225's ok for wheels 8.5" wide? Pardon my ignorance, but I thought 215's were what I needed working on the basis that 8.5" is 215mm. Or is that figure an outer dimension?

Also, if that is fine, would I be better off getting 225's for the front and 235's for the rear?

Thanks again :)

225 tyres on an 8.5" rim is fine. That is what I am running on the fronts of mine. I am running 255 rears.

As for the price. I assume that is for 4 tyres? If so, then that is pretty good.

yes it's for 4 :)

add about £15 if I want 235's on the rear

is it worth the extra do you reckon?

£15 isn't bad to go with 235s. It really is up to you whether you want a slightly staggered set up with your tyres. I have kept the same set up as came on the car (which were staggered anyway), but if you do want to stagger them, then just make sure it keeps as close as possible to the standard rolling circumferences.

I'd say slightly staggered (just a 10mm difference) would be preferable. Having slightly wider tyres on the rear is also a cosmetic improvement as well IMO

I'd go for it if I were you. £15 is neither here nor there.
