Anyone have this and running it sucessfully?

I have "got" a copy and purchased the lead from ebay, tried it today but it kept saying 'bad communication'.

I am running it via the serial port as it is supposed to be.

Anyone have any experience or ideas?

Have u tried rebooting awhile everything is connected? and you have select correct port?

ive used/tried carsoft , ive also got a whole lot of other OBD apps , i used the OBD port in the car to laptop , but you can only read values with a standard obd lead , temps , some fault code reading..ect and not write values , i got some software that does a dyno run , o-60's ...ect gives a graphic display and all that fancy jazz :D

also it can be hit and miss with some software , one app (bmw scanner) shown a camshaft sensor fault , but others didnt ...., im going to invest in a proper kit that allows you to Read and write to the Eeprom :) as there cheap considering the things you can do.

When I tried the diagnostic cable with car soft only the power led was green the other two stayed red, so I downloaded scanmaster ELM when I launched that program the power led was green and also the L-line, but the k-line stayed red, but scanmaster didnt work either, kept saying interface error!!

I have used COM 1 to 4 without sucess, and I think I always plugged in and turned on the car and then launched the software, but strange that neither software actually work.

Thanks Mitsu, The engine light keeps coming on, then going away for a few days then coming on, so I wanted something that i could use myself regularly rather than having to keep popping to peoples places to use there tools.

If I cant get this sorted I will pop over to yours to see what the latest codes are, cheers

Best way is to isolate and fix the problem for good rather than resetting it on a regular basis...

I also have a peake tool if you need any assistance.

Also there are a few guys on MB Forums who have experience of Carsoft...

I had one that I used on my 2000 coupe and had the exact same problems as yourself. In the end I took the OBD socket out of the car and compared the socket to the plug from the carsoft tool and found the pins were a different configuration so it was never going to work . It seems some older models have this difference on the OBD connection .....could be you have the same

mine is a 2001 model and I guess this could be the issue, as the pins from the cable are the same as the one you posted.

This seems more likely to be the reason, as none of the free software will work either.

I will try the lead on someone who has a newer car and see what happens
