does tv tuner needed for satnav to work?

hi guys
my mate had a friend who installed a oem satnav to his car.
but the kit doesn't have the tv tuner, and after he connected everything up.
the cds and everything works except for the screen display.
the guy who installed it then took out his own satnav from his x5 and unplug the tv tuner to see if it was the same, and indeed it was.
so he was saying to my mate that he need to buy a tv tuner for the display to work.
is this true?

well i dont know but it sounds weird. Why would you NEED a tv tuner just for the sat nav display to work [hmm.

I presume he means when the gear is in TV mode, if it has a tv mode. :confused:

Yes you need the tv tuner in order to make the OEM screen work properly. Or it'll just stay on back up mode.

cos my friend bought the satnav, but tv tuner wasn't included, the seller didn't mentioned about that a tv tuner is need for it to work, becos what is the point if you bought a satnav and the display doesn't work unless you have the tv tuner? what if he doesn't want to watch tv, he just purely wanted the satnav?
so basically you need everything for the satnav to work.
