View Full Version : Spacers with MV alloys

As I'm dropping the 330, I want to fill the arches a bit more before the new alloys arrive. I've currently got the standard 19" MV's. I assume that with longer bolts, some spacers should do the trick.
Yes/no?
If "Yes", any idea where I can get some? Cheers.

Standard 18" MVs you can space the rear out 7mm and the front out 10mm. Spacers can be obtained from Roy.

Some one educate me here please.....i was always under the assumption that spacers were used when the wheel offset was out - thus in order to correct it to fit a car.
Does what your saying mean you can fit spacers to a car in conjunction with wheels that would fit perfectly well without them? And if this is the case - the result would be the wheels sticking out from the hub that 'amount of spacer width' more? Right?
Wouldnt this just result in you pushing the limit on arch scraping issues?
Or am i missing (or missed ) the point
Cheers

Visikid: Witherspoons in Edinburgh.
Silver: Pro Kit (so hopefully no arch issues)
Sorry, meant 18" MV's not 19". If they were 19", no need to change!

What wheel are you changing to after the MV's?
Looking to change mine as I hit a pot hole a few weeks ago and buckled (flat spots) both front wheels. Can't decide whether to get two new rims or change the lot.

Gonna go for 19" Hartge Classics with Staggered set up. The bird isn't too happy about it but holidays are for wankers anyway.

LOL
I've just resorted to not telling mine anymore. Its not worth the grief. They never understand anyway.
BTW my car is being lowered at the weekend with the prokit so will be interesting to see how thosed dated mv's look

'Perfect' from the factory usually means substantial room for manipulation. We are modders right? [cool Yes, factory fitment ensure absolutely no rubbing by allowing the wheel to sit further inwards (less offset). But that gives the skinny stance. By spacing the wheel out, you can give your car a more purposeful stance. As long as it's not extreme, you will not alter the handling or cause any rubbing. A lot of mods can be very subtle but make a big difference, and wheel spacers is one of them ;)
The tuck in look before spacer :(

The fuller arch fill after a 10mm spacer [ok

hmmm interesting! I might get me some spacers :D
Nick I got four spacers when I bought my type III but never had them fitted, if I fitted them would this cause any problems, guessing I would need longer bolts too? [hmm

Your Type 3s should come with the longer wheel bolts. Are you using the original BMW ones? How did you mount the Type 3s without the spacers? They won't be sitting snugly on the wheel hub without the staggered spacers
Yeah, space those suckers out but you need to slam your car first ;) ;)
Not sure if I have longer bolts, wheels were already fitted when I picked the car up....will have to check.
Might as well make use of those spacers then.
Very tempted to slam....I think I will get it done, just dont want to make the ride any harder.

With the Pro-Kit, it will not get harder, instead it will be better! ;) ....honest, try mine :D

Arr ha - i see - thanks for the explination and before and after pics! Looks like summat i'll be doin when i get me some new rimmage at some point
Nick the springs you have can be used with the standard dampers, would I need to do a wheel realignment too? How much approx for the spings?
I've always had problems on previous lowered m3's where the tyre wears from the inside and no tyre fitter could ever get the tracking right.

No re-alignment needed on mine. Car tracks as straight as OEM. I fitted the tyres brand new when the Pro-Kit went on, so far the wear is right across the centre. You can see the original moulding lines worn down evenly.
Teddy can get you the springs ;), and Kav can slam her for you :D
i had to pay £60 to sort out alignment when i got the pro-kit. The camber is still a bit off but the guys at feltham said thats normal with lowered cars and betters handling?. Im assuming its different on M cars then.

I had a hub rings made up for mine so i didnt have to use the spacers as the rears were rubbing.Fits nice and snug now, with no rubbing. ;)
I was under the impression that you should always get the cars camber/tracking checked after lowering a car as they will generally always be out  .
Also, when putting spacers on a car does this not have a slight adverse effect on the bearings (would appreciate any answers to this)? [hmm
Cheers,
Raj

Yes it does effect the bearings, but in these cases 7 -10mm wont do any harm.
Ahhh cheers for that. I may have to consider going down this route.
I only have the 18" MVs but I am getting the Sport Kit fitted on Saturday (front/rear bumpers and the side skirts :D ). Will post some pics when it's done.
