CSL Boot Lid Install
Tools needed:
torx 30 bit
Flat head screw driver
Pair of Grips
Fitting time 1-2 hrs
Difficulty 2/5
Step 1
Undo the tool box attached to the underneath of the lid by unscrewing the big thumb screw used to open and close it.
Then there is two small screws covered in carpet material on top of them at the very bottom of the tool kit undo these and then slide out the tool kit.
Step 2
Undo all pop clips holding the carpet lining in place by sliding a flat head screw driver under and popping up! Once the heads have popped up, pull out using grips.
Then the carpet lining should come away.
Step 3
Unclip lights and lock connecters, there is one on each side of the rear lights, one on the main lock in the middle and one behind the keyhole lock itself.

There is also one connecter fitted to the number plate lights.
Step 4
Once all the fittings are disconnected you then need pull the wire harness out by taking out the rubber grommet on the bottom right hand side of the lid and pull the harness though.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/nu330ci/cslbootliddiy003.jpg
Step 5
Removal of old lid, just loosen off the 2 torx screws to each hinge on both sides of the lid, you need someone to hold the lid in place while you unscrew the lid to stop it dropping on to the car.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/nu330ci/cslbootliddiy005.jpg
Before taking off the hinges take a note as to where the hinge is positioned as this is where the new lid should also be placed.
Step 6
Fitting new cls lid:
A good tip before handling the new freshly painted lid is to place it in a black bin bag to avoid marking it while fitting.
Again you will need someone to help hold the new lid in place while you screw the bolts back in to the hinges.
Once it all screwed up tight take off bin bag and check the fit and adjust the hinges if needed, all the lines around the boot and lights should be nicely matched up.

Where you happy with the fitment go ahead and strip the bits of the old lid and replace on to the new csl one.

Lights

Start by taking off the rear lights, very easy to remove! Unclip the back plastic cover and unscrew the small black nut holding the white plastic grip in place and pop out the lights!
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/nu330ci/cslbootliddiy010.jpg
Main lock
Unscrew the 3 torx bolts holding the lock in place and pull out from underneath moving it away from the lid, Do Not pull out to hard as you need to unclip the small white plastic rod attached to the keyhole lock, pull open the small clip on the white rod and pop it off with a flat head screw driver. Then remove the lock it self.

Keyhole Lock
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/nu330ci/cslbootliddiy017.jpg
Unscrew the back plate behind the keyhole to gain access to the lock its self (note this cover will not fit back on the csl lid) once the cover is moved you will see 2 torx screws, take these out and then you will need twist the whole lock itself until it clicks around and comes lose, again before the lock will come away you will need undo the other end of the white plastic rod.

Once lose it will just pop out! Don’t forget to take out the rubber ring around the lock as well.
Rubber cushion rings
The 2 rubber cushion rings just twist off by hand; make a note of how far they are screw down before removing as mine went back in at the same depth on the new lid.
Unscrew number plate and your ready to re-fit all the fittings to the new lid!
Bmw badge
Slide a credit card underneath the badge and slowly pop off with flat head screw driver
Replacing fittings to new csl lid
Just re-fit in the reverse order of taking them off!
A good tip I found when fitting the harness back into the new lid was to get a long length of string and tie a small nut or washer to one end of it, and then drop the nut down though the hole at the top right of the lid and move it about until the nut falls though the small grommet hole at the bottom of the lid, then tie the wire harness to the string and gently pull the wire harness back though the lid until it reaches to the top, then your now ready to re-fit all the lights and locks.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/nu330ci/cslbootliddiy014.jpg
You will need some new number plate lights (E39) to re-fit to the csl lid
Part no. 632683372001
Also needed is some new number plate holder grommets part no. 46632347
Once all the fittings are in and connected be sure to check the lights and the locks work before re-fitting the boot lining.
Note: that the tool kit does not fit into the csl lid.
Now Stand back and admire your new lid
